About this listen

This standalone novel is another fine example of the wonderful, zany humor of P. G. Wodehouse.

Imperious American widow Beatrice Chavender is visiting her sister's country home near London when a most unfortunate thing happens: She takes a bite of inferior ham while having her breakfast. Soon everyone around her is suffering the consequences - her sister, her brother-in-law, the butler, poor Sally, Sally's fiancé, and even Mrs. Chavender's ex-fiancé, "Ham King" J. B. Duff.

Don't miss this wild romp from the acknowledged master of British humor.

Great voice characterizations! The fast paced story is full of interesting subjects. It was easy to sink in and get to know them. I found myself forgetting that only one person was narrating.

Witty and quick paced

A fun read - and English grammar lesson. 😊 I always enjoy the so properly narrated 'slapstick' and often see A Bit of Laurie and Fry in my mind's eye when the action gets a bit fruity... Very well. That is all.

This light silly book is a nice light read. Though, I cannot imagine actually reading it- Simon Vance is amazing and the only reason I chose it

Simon Vance!!!!

This book was my first introduction to Audible PG Wodehouse and remains my favorite. Simon Vance is amazing performing it. For the past 2 years I have been listening to included Wodehouse stories to the point I always have 12 credits stacked up and even lost one last month. Jonathan Cecil is a very good performer as well. Quick Service makes me laugh out loud over and over. The story is clever and engaging, the characters well drawn and the ending satisfying. Treat yourself to some fun.

My favorite Wodehouse story to date

Rollicking

If you remember that once upon a time, we could laugh at one another without being "canceled", and know the difference between tounge-in-cheek and meanness, then this a delightful way to spend a few hours. And for once, no one confused the word SECRET-ED (to hide something) and SECRETE-ED (to emit/secrete a substance) which has happened in about 15 Audible recordings and counting. it was funny the first time, i.e. " Annabel SECRETE-D (emphasis on the second syllable as in *to emit or discharge*) the book in her pocket ", when it should have been read as SECRET-ED, as in *to hide*. But now it's ubiquitous and just annoys me constantly, ruining the moment and he story when I have to yell at the narrator. I'll keep mentioning it in all my reviews, but I fear the damage is done.

Dry humor at it's best

Light hearted romp with lots of chuckles in the actions and snappyily written dialogue! Well performed, too.

Fun story and great use of voices but Mr Vance. Didn’t miss Wooster and Jeeves at all.
