I have been suffering from depression and anxiety for a long time. But in 2020 I reached the lowest low… talking therapy doesn’t work for me. But books like this one have showed me how to understand my triggers and reprogram my mind to think differently. I am not saying that I am 100% free or that I will be able to manage another crisis on my own. But o have been able to see another perspective and not only it has helped me but I have been able to help others 🥰 thank you for writing this book Avery and thank you for reading it to me with your amazing calming voice

Having no background in psychology, but being surrounded by the subject of mental health & people who are affected by it, listening to this book gives me hope about treatment options, as well as knowledge of their concepts. It also provides me with tools that I can try using to lessen the severity of certain issues.

The voice behind audible is very monotone and not very interesting to listen to. I only have 2 and a half hours left but cannot finish it (I have been pushing myself to finish it since the beginning). The way it is laid out doesn't feel very planned, and it doesn't start to go into depth until the last 15-20 chapters which is a lot considering there's over 60 chapters. The first 40ish chapters are extremely one-sided with its examples on "how to do better" and doesn't allow room for nuances and real life circumstances. like somehow theres a "this is wrong" and "this is the way to get the exact result youre aiming for", completely unrealistic. Even worse, when the book switches to make an "example", it feels like you're leaving a psychology book and entering a storytelling novel. It's an instant switch from discussing resentment to "as an example: she shivers, as she looks at him coldly", "he let's out a loud gasp, not believing what she just told him. Thinking it through thoroughly, he whispers in a sad voice" - this completely throws you off and is so annoying when trying to learn. It literally snapped me into reality each time and made me want to stop paying attenti9n, its just that I spent credits on this.. yet I couldnt finish it.
