About this listen

Today's psychologist is apt to be very different from the image most people conjure up when asked to picture one - an image that almost always suggests Sigmund Freud or someone like him, complete with leather couch.

But as indebted as they may be to Freud's landmark explorations of our psychological landscape, modern psychologists are involved in far more than helping people cope with their inner demons. Instead, they are working in areas that now encompass every part of the process by which we develop and function as people:

  • How we perceive, remember, and learn
  • How we select our friends and partners and retain their affection and love
  • The things that motivate us

Now you can gain a basic introduction to psychology - beginning with its historical context and looking ahead to some of the directions it is likely to take in the future - in this fascinating series of 36 lectures from an acclaimed teacher and author. It explores all of the many new areas that now fit comfortably beneath psychology's umbrella and the sophisticated new research methods that have emerged.

These lectures are both an excellent summary of a transformed profession and an ideal starting point for those eager to expand their understanding of the human mind.

Outstanding Lectures For Intro To Psych

What does Professor David W. Martin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator is the Professor giving the lectures. He has experience in the field of psychology, and brings this experience to his lectures.

Any additional comments?

Magnificent! 97/100

I have over a hundred audiobooks and taken many of the Great Curses, several psychology related and this is the first time I felt I compelled to write a review specially for the long time I and you will invest on it.

If you are looking for complete overview of the field of psychology look no further this is it.

Very well structured
Very clear
Great examples
Down to earth
The profesor makes an excellent job over all since I never got bored.

If you are wondering if there is something bad the only MINOR thing I notice is every now and then he gets tangle with the words but since it seems to be a life performance is completely natural.

Use of Filler words

Dr. Martins use of "Ahhs" or "ums" almost ruins this lecture, I prefer silence instead of the use of a filler word, so for me listening in was a challenge. good material overall, just to many filler words.

Pretty great "Intro" to Psychology

I liked this series of lectures a lot actually, it was very informative, the teacher was good at presenting, and there was a good amount of detail of varying topics. I do wish that there was more nuanced information provided, because it was very generalized to mostly just cater to straight, cis, men and women. Gender and Sexual Identity was a topic that was covered, but it was brief and not mentioned again throughout the series, and I believe there were many opportunities to present interesting information that sorta just fell flat. Overall though, if you don't care about that (which, I'm not sure why you would even want to read this then) it's great :)
