About this listen
Explore life through the lens of the world's most fascinating philosophical thinkers with this accessible book.
If you sometimes ask yourself "Why am I here?" or "Is there always a clear right and wrong?", you're drawn to the big questions of life, which is what philosophy is all about! Its goal is to explore life's mysteries, to see if universal truths are discoverable through logical reasoning.
The nature of these philosophical issues, which span a variety of subjects including life after death, existence, religion, ethics, morality, happiness, and more, have eluded philosophers for millennia.
Below are just some of the areas this book delves deeply into:
- Thought-provoking questions about morality, free will, and happiness
- Defining and determining the purpose of life, death, and self
- The paradox of connecting mind and body
- Proving the existence of a higher power (?)
Questions make life more interesting and colorful. Without them, we'd be stuck in a perpetual void of idleness.
These philosophical questions can enlighten your mind, ignite your drive for life, and induce critical and deep thinking...or they can also be fun conversation starters over coffee.... You choose!

Discovering that reason is the defining feature of our species, we named ourselves the “rational animal”. But is this flattering story itself rational? In this sweeping account of irrationality from antiquity to today - from the fifth-century BC murder of Hippasus for revealing the existence of irrational numbers to the rise of Twitter mobs and the election of Donald Trump - Justin Smith says the evidence suggests the opposite.

Story
Can there be freedom and free will in a deterministic world? Renowned philosopher Daniel Dennett emphatically answers "yes!" Using an array of provocative formulations, Dennett sets out to show how we alone among the animals have evolved minds that give us free will and morality. Weaving a richly detailed narrative, Dennett explains in a series of strikingly original arguments - drawing upon evolutionary biology, cognitive neuroscience, economics, and philosophy - that far from being an enemy of traditional explorations of freedom, morality, and meaning, the evolutionary perspective can be an indispensable ally.

Story
For all the thousands of books that have been written about religion, few until this one have attempted to examine it scientifically: to ask why - and how - it has shaped so many lives so strongly. Is religion a product of blind evolutionary instinct or rational choice? Is it truly the best way to live a moral life? Ranging through biology, history, and psychology, Daniel C. Dennett charts religion’s evolution from “wild” folk belief to “domesticated” dogma.

Story
This audiobook is a long-awaited major statement by a pre-eminent analytic philosopher, Alvin Plantinga, on one of our biggest debates - the compatibility of science and religion. The last twenty years has seen a cottage industry of books on this divide, but with little consensus emerging. Plantinga, as a top philosopher but also a proponent of the rationality of religious belief, has a unique contribution to make. His theme in this short book is that the conflict between science and theistic religion is actually superficial, and that at a deeper level they are in concord.

Story
It has been proclaimed many times, but perhaps never more convincingly than now, when every news cycle seems to deliver further confirmation of a world gone mad. Is this the endgame? Author Spencer Klavan is a classicist, with a Ph.D. from Oxford, and a deep understanding of the West. His analysis: The situation is dire. But every crisis we face today, we have faced before. And we can surmount each one. Klavan brings to the West’s defense the insights of Plato, Aristotle, the Bible, and the Founding Fathers to show that in the wisdom of the past lies hope for the future.

The story of philosophy is an epic tale, spanning civilizations and continents. It explores some of the most creative minds in history. But not since the long-popular classic by Bertrand Russell, A History of Western Philosophy, published in 1945, has there been a comprehensive and entertaining single-volume history of this great, intellectual, world-shaping journey.

For those seeking depth
I remember when I was young and I would have these profound insights or any insights for matter, I uncovered something that no had or knew. Since no one was talking about these insights or the few people I shared them with thought it was profound, I was convinced I stumbled across unique secrets. And I allowed them to dictate my decisions and actions.
The fact of the matter was humanity has been on this planet far longer than I and has been contemplating deeper thoughts and questions for thousands of years. So they have contemplated and come to understand far more, and that knowledge has been far deeper and useful than what I could come to understand on my own. Therefore it’s important to understand the philosophical questions that have come before us and this book does an excellent job of bringing them to light.
As this book’s description says “These philosophical questions can enlighten your mind, ignite your drive for life, and induce critical and deep thinking”

Great For Broadening Your Horizons
This audiobook is great for broadening your horizons. The author makes listeners reflect on their role in the world and consider alternative viewpoints. I really appreciate the fact that everything is explained in simple English rather than being spoken at a level above my comprehension is the best aspect of this audiobook. This enables even the most difficult philosophical ideas to be understood by listeners of any age. The flow of the audiobook is quite smooth, and the narrator does an excellent job whose voice is crystal clear and captivating. Overall, "Provocative Philosophical Questions That Inspire Deep Thinking and Deeper Living" by Atlas Britton is something you should look into. I definitely recommend it!

Prepare to Think!
I have wanted to explore Philosophy for many years and this audio was a great introduction into the subject and it’s various branches. From this foundation you can delve deeper into areas which may have particularly interested you. For me this is post-humanism and the conundrum posed by The Ship of Theseus

A must if you love active reading
I absolutely loved this audiobook for several reasons. Usually, I'm not a big philosophy fan, but growing up, I would always ask my mom questions about life and why things happen. This book raises the same questions I had as a kid. Still, I continue to wonder about some topics: this audiobook makes the listener question life, identity, and more. I found this book very interesting and innovative; it stands out from other audiobooks' capacity to make you reflect on topics. You will love this active listening, I would recommend it to anyone.

Way better than my college Philosophy course
As someone who has always struggled with the field of philosophy ever since I took a philosophy course in college, this book made things clear and easy to understand. Atlas Britton did an amazing job of presenting complex topics in a way that was approachable and understandable.
What really stood out to me about this book was how thought-provoking it was. The big questions posed within its pages really got me thinking, and I found myself contemplating them long after I finished listening. I often judge how good a book is based on whether I think about it outside of reading it, and this book definitely did that for me. While I was out walking my dogs last night, I found myself just randomly pondering these deep philosophical questions.
One of the things I appreciated most about this audiobook was how well it was narrated. The narrator did a great job of bringing the material to life and making it easy to listen to. I also appreciated the specific examples and thought experiments included in the book. They helped me understand the concepts better and gave me a framework for further contemplation.
Overall, I highly recommend "Provocative Philosophical Questions That Inspire Deep Thinking and Deeper Living" to anyone interested in philosophy or looking to deepen their understanding of life's big questions. I am sure I will be returning to this book time and time again to dive back into the specifics of the different thought experiments presented.

I think therefore I am
Provacative Philosophical Questions that Inspire Deep Thinking and Deeper Living by Atlas Britton was a great listen.
The subject matter is thought provoking which is what I was looking for but the best part of the audio book is that it explains everything in plain english instead of talking above my head.
This book certainly opened my mind and helped me look deeper into the connection of my mind and body. As i am aging i felt like my mindset might be causing my negative symptoms in my body (pain, slowing down etc). This book helped me realize i was correct and could change that course by having a more positive mind-set. That alone made this book a great listen.
However, additionally the book helped open my mind to ideas on morality and other things in today's modern world.
I highly recommend this book
