About this listen

A powerful sorcerer. A forgotten past. Hellequin is back, and the end is near.

A terrible storm is brewing in London, and Nathan Garrett, the sorcerer known as Hellequin, is the only one who can stop it.

But his enemies have other plans. Harnessing the power of an ancient stone tablet, they cast Nate and his allies into another realm, where a bloody conflict rages between creatures twisted by magic. Meanwhile, with his friends' lives in danger, Nate must put centuries of differences aside, and place his trust in one of his greatest foes.

Time is running out. Trapped and outnumbered, Nate must use all his wits and power to survive and find his way home before his enemies start a war that could destroy everything he holds close. Welcome to the penultimate chapter of the Hellequin Chronicles.

New narrator is really good!

I admit that I'm only a few chapters in so I'm just assuming that the story is as good as the rest, but the Narrator is SO Much better!
I've always liked the books (lots of fun!) but the previous narrator always annoyed me. He made all the female characters (no matter how strong and powerful) sound like high voiced, weak, little girls. This reader - Great with accents, Great with voices. So Much Better. Very Happy!

Enjoying the story

I enjoyed the story, was a bit gauge one the world building at first but strangely enough I think it kinda works when you take into account each book builds on the world bit by bit. a little odd when they changed narrator's a couple of books back but still enjoyable.

great series!!

and so far, i think this book has been the best! Mr McHugh is an expert at tying up loose ends while leaving you on an edge of your seat cliffhanger at the same time! i wasn’t sure about the narrator change, but Mr Mattacks was great and very enjoyable to listen to. applause all round!!

Narrator

It was through gritted teeth that I made it through this one. Changing the narrator this far into a series is very difficult to handle.

Narrator change...

I generally hate narrator changes. This change wasn't as bad as others, but it still wasn't a good thing. Often the narrator made Nate sound like one of the female characters. It was I'd having a high pitch question be followed by Nate asked. Otherwise the narrator was good.

Otherwise I liked the book. I'm not where I'd place the book in comparison to the rest of the series, mainly because the narrator took some of the joy out of it. These books are always full of plot holes and yet are fun enough that we joyfully go along with it. This one is no exception. Fun, action packed, with enough emotion and wit to keep ones mind away from the flaws. I'm good with it. They don't pretend to be anything else. And, the originality is great.
Can't wait for the next book, though I hope we get the original narrator back.

Another great book in the series.

It took me a minute to get use to a different narrator. He does a good job telling the story though. Excellent storyline too. I look forward to the next story in the series.

Alex

Another fascinating installment in the Hellequin chronicles. Steve Mchugh has a way of revealing long held mysteries and introducing new plots without being abrupt in his endings. You want to continue the series not from a cliffhanger ending but because the story is so enjoyable. Simon Mattacks was superb. Thanks Steve for a great read/listen

Excellent

I can't wait for the next book in this series. I discovered this book recently and was happy to catch up on the series during a marathon reading session. Now I'm salivating waiting for the next.

Change is not always better

love the story, start bringing everything into picture from previous books. The only thing that severely disappointed me was the narrator. He talk too fast and used different accents four characters that have a history with the longtime narrator of James Langton. he mispronounces certain names and certain words to the point to where it's distracting. I hope James is back for the next book.
