About this listen

The bestselling author and creator of the hit Netflix drama The Stranger reveals the deadly consequences that can be born of the best intentions.

As the school year winds down, Myron Bolitar is determined to help keep his friends’ children safe from the dangers of drinking and driving. So he makes two neighborhood girls promise him that if they are ever in a bind but are afraid to call their parents, they must call him. Several nights later, the call comes at two a.m. The next day, a girl is missing and Myron is the last person who saw her. Racing to find her before she’s gone forever, Myron must outrun his own troubled past and decide once and for all who he is and what he will stand up for...

Some good twists!

Good listen. I can't really pinpoint why I don't think this is his best book. Enjoyable all the same.

A lot of characters

A lot of characters made it hard for me to follow… couldn’t keep the names straight. But a good story. Suspenseful.

Whiplash! from all the twists and turns

Coban may be my favorite writer as he masterly weaves complex plots without plot holes. Along the way are deep insights on human nature as well as comedic moments of irony and wit.

who changes the audio reader at book 9?

Weber's voice wasn't as perfect a fit for these characters imho, and at times, that was distracting.

Changed narrator

Another excellent mystery. A bit more linear than some previous Bolitar novels but ending still a surprise. Preferred previous narrator but Steven Weber did a reasonable job. However, Esperanza lost her Latina accent, syntax and edge. Myron’s also lost his edge and his comedic timing; a bit like an Alan Alda character. I’ll still finish the series; I had all of them but this one in my library and listened to them originally as they were released.

An unexpected twist in the end

It all came together in the end, but I must admit I got lost a few times.
