Publisher's summary

Legendary national bestselling Western authors William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone return with the blazing new installment in their long-running series featuring Preacher, the First Mountain Man, a pioneering hero who embodies the Johnstone brand—and the American Frontier.

When greed overtakes men’s souls, it falls to the righteous mountaineer known as Preacher to rain fire and brimstone upon them from the barrels of his guns …

JOHNSTONE COUNTRY.

THE SPIRIT OF COURAGE AND TRUE GRIT.

Preacher has agreed to escort Barnaby Cooper through Dakota Territory’s hills to establish a trading post. Accompanied by his friends Lorenzo and Tall Dog, the mountain man hopes they’ll be able to protect Cooper from Sioux warriors who don’t want any white man trespassing on their sacred grounds.

But the Sioux aren’t the only hostiles staking their claim in the region. Englishman Albion Shaw knows there’s gold in the hills. And with a band of cutthroat killers to do his bidding, Shaw has enough manpower and firepower to keep both trappers and tribes from settling on the land where he can build an empire.

But Shaw didn’t reckon on crossing a man like Preacher. A man who not only knows what it takes to survive in the wilderness, but a man who will fight for freedom and justice to his very last breath—and his very last bullet …

This one was a tad slow, but very good story

This is my 10th book by this author. I enjoyed it very much little slow in the middle, but still worth listening to. Narrator did a great job.

out gunned, out maned is not unusual...

preacher and dog with friends are more than capable of overcoming human odds...even a air gun with 90 rounds handled by an experienced foreigner...

One of the better ones BUT...

I despise it when complete left turns are taken. At no point in ANY of the previous 25+ Preacher novels is there any mention of Preacher using the inferior Paterson Colts. He transitioned from his single shot 4 barrel black powder guns to his Walker Colts, which were far superior to the Paterson models. This includes the Preacher and Mccallister books as well as the Smoke Jensen novels. A little continuity would be nice. That being said, this was one of the better Preacher novels to be released in quite some time. It was more in line with the originals written by William Johnstone instead of all the "ghost written" books.

Preacher’s back

One of my favorite series. It’s always good to listen about preacher’s adventures and this book does not disappoint.

Perfect

Absolutely one of the best in the entire Preacher Series, and I know because I own the entire Preacher Series. Particularly loved the respectable, capable Black Characters I'm not used to enjoying in western books. We were there, my great grandfather and grandfather were there, and they were as capable and strong in character as most men from that time. Nice to be represented properly. Two thumbs up. .
