About this listen

Killers. Thieves. Pirates. Family.

Mercy Kincaid is a fugitive from her own family. Her dangerous telepathic gifts make her a target. So is anyone she gets close to. When her best friend is captured and tortured, Mercy's only hope is to reunite with the family that tried to murder her as a child. She trusts few among her blood relatives, but finds herself intrigued by an enigmatic and dangerous killer.

Reaper has spent a lifetime watching his people die. He's vowed to kill anyone who jeopardizes their survival. Mercy's gifts are the biggest threat they've faced in 11 years, since a biological weapon nearly annihilated the pirate colonies. But Reaper realizes her talents can either destroy them, or save them. He must decide if he's fallen victim to her power, or if he can truly trust the beautiful woman and her compelling abilities. If he makes the wrong choice, everyone dies.

Contains mature themes.

This book was incredibly hard to put down. I really think that the storyline was inventive and not repetitive like most YA books can be. I liked that the romance in the book did not take over. The narrator did an amazing job. The only negative about it was that it had to end.

Likeable but still wonderfully flawed characters!

I was really enjoying the book - well written and interesting. Great world building and well paced, the characters were interesting, however it just felt weird that a relationship developed where the heroine is devoted to the hero, loves the hero, however decides that politics and power is more important so she’s going to add multiple partners to the mix - her big Romantic declaration to the alpha male hero in the story was that he would be her first consort but not her last, - so she just in effect announced to him that she thought about it and she could commit to him, but he’s not enough on his own, she wants sex with other men, and other relationships that will help her stabilise her power and political position, how romantic. This just didn’t fit the characters personalities.

I was very keen thinking i had found a great new series, I loved it right up until I realised Mercy was going for the reverse harem option which I think just doesn’t work. I dont get offended by reverse harem, it just doesn’t work for this couple.

Reverse harem - otherwise would have been great

The narrator did a great job bringing this story to life. I had a lot of fun in this unique world. I'm a character reader and as long as I enjoy the characters, I'm guaranteed to like the rest. The author did a great job making me root for her characters the whole way through. There were a few scenes that lagged with information overload, but no more so than you'd find in most other "first books" of a series. This was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to what happens next.

Note: It's tagged as a Reverse Harem. They discuss the importance of multiple consorts in this book, but there's currently only one love interest.

Really Fun!

Mercy meets up with the Pirate Lord. The Pirates are telepaths. Mercy is also. The Pirate Lord will help her learn how to control and use her gift. Loved the relationship between these two.

Great character and world building.
