About this listen

Dead by dessert . . .

Thanksgiving is Bailey King's busiest holiday weekend. This year promises to be even more hectic, since Bailey's candy shop, Swissmen Sweets, is providing desserts for Harvest, Ohio's first village-wide Thanksgiving celebration. Yet, even with a guest list close to seven hundred people—Amish and English alike—the event's organizer, Margot Rawlings, is unfazed . . . until she discovers her mother, former judge Zara Bevan, will be in attendance.

Zara's reputation as a harsh critic is matched only by her infamy as a judge who has actively harmed the Amish community. So no one is prepared when Zara arrives with much younger boyfriend Blaze Smith and reveals their impending nuptials at dinner. That should have been the day's biggest news, except shortly after the announcement, Blaze suffers an allergic reaction to something he's eaten and dies on the spot.

Now, Bailey's desserts are prime suspects, along with Margot and nearly everyone who attended the meal. With such a cornucopia of possibilities, Bailey must dig in and get to the bottom of this murder, before the killer goes up for seconds . . .

Really loved this!

As always, I loved all of the characters. New and old. Big twist in the story that I enjoyed. Nice that it was more of a mystery than a romance novel. There's too many Amish romance novels anyways. Great to get a break from that a little. Can't wait to hear the next one.

Another Flower Gem

I don't know why I get so into these books by Amanda Flowers. They take me in and hold me with her rich characters and detailed description of the areas . After a couple books you grow to love the characters and the animals. You can feel what being Amish must be like. Always fun and light to take you away from your hectic life.

4 stars

I enjoyed the mystery but Bailey's character is getting on my nerves. She can't say no to anyone and as much as she says she's helping her grandma, her grandma is working more. I also don't think Jethro is funny. The pace is a little slow but the plot is pretty good.

Welcome Back to Harvest

So much is changing in Harvest and in the lives of Bailey and her friends and loved ones, and yet, so much remains the same. Margo and Ruth will forever muster the troops for their respective purposes. Juliette will remain an eternal optimist. Jethro will cause trouble wherever he goes, and Bailey will never learn to say "no." Even so, Amanda Flowers manages to take the reader on a bumpy ride in this latest outing filled with plenty of surprises, murder, relationship angst, and the promise of personal and professional changes to come, all set against a holiday backdrop. There are plenty of murder suspects, and though you may despair of ever solving the crime, Bailey never let's us down. Neither does Ms. Flowers, and I am left wanting more. Now begins the wait for the next one.

Interesting Story

The story was a study in villainy. Bad people do exist, even in Amish country. (More Jethro, please.)

Detailed

Painfully over detailed and drawn out. Easy to follow. Could be about 2 hours shorter.
