Acerca de esta escucha

Paul Temple lives again in five BBC Radio 4 remakes of classic adventures, starring Crawford Logan as Paul and Gerda Stephenson as Steve.

Paul Temple and the Sullivan Mystery (2006): A pair of spectacles spells danger for the suave sleuth and his wife as they embark on a trip to Egypt.

Paul Temple and the Madison Mystery (2008): A murdered millionaire and a mysterious watch-chain sets the Temples on the trail of an international counterfeiting gang.

Paul Temple and Steve (2010): On the hunt for notorious criminal mastermind Dr Belasco, Paul and Steve find trouble at every turn...

A Case for Paul Temple (2011): Braving booby traps, bullets and blazing houses, Paul pursues a shadowy drug dealer known only as ‘Valentine’.

Paul Temple and the Gregory Affair (2013): When a young woman disappears, Paul is drawn into a ruthless kidnapping racket run by the murderous ‘Mr Gregory’.

These five dramas were originally broadcast in the late 1940s, but are now missing from the BBC archives. Using the same scripts, vintage sound effects and much of the original incidental music, these remakes have been engineered to sound as much like the lost serials as possible.

Caution: these programmes contain language that may cause offense, and dated attitudes that reflect the age in which they are set.

Charlie and Steve were more prominent than in old episodes. However style and excellence matched the original

Almost as good as original

It you like British mysteries, you will like the Paul Temple series. Great acting, and lots of suspects. I tend to listen over and over again.

Very entertaining

This reminds me of the old fashion radio shows I use to listen to as a child.

Great listen

I very much enjoyed all of these Paul Temple radio show performances and wish there were more! The performances are fantastic and lots of fun to listen to! The only negative is all the glorification of alcohol and tobacco, which I know was the norm back then, but when someone has taken a tumble or whatever, brandy is really not the answer, seriously, ha. Otherwise, very enjoyable stories and performances.

Great performances, good mysteries, very enjoyable

Very good audio considering these series were created so long ago. Great selection of episodes. Very Enjoyable.

Excellent Audiobook

I wanted to enjoy this collection. I really did, The mysteries themselves were enjoining and interesting, but I couldn't get over the amazingly rampant sexisim in every story, especially from the lead character. His wife is constantly belittled, dismissed, and generally treated as a annoying dog rather than a human being. It's accurate for the time period, which only makes it more sad since these were made in the 2000s.

If you love a good mystery, but also feminism, this isn't for you either.

Vintage Sexism

Positive: Voice acting is very good. I appreciate the attention the 21st century director and actors paid to the 20th century script. I loved the retro radio drama feel.
Negative: My issue is with the script. It is very frustrating to listen to the way Paul treats Steve. Understand that the stories are set in 1947, but still, he orders her around and does not listen when she is trying to tell him something important. In terms of the stories, they both run into dangerous situations stupidly, mostly because Paul thinks he can handle any situation. I love listening to radio dramas, but this was my least favorite. HOWEVER I have not read the books upon which these were based, so I don’t know if the failure is in the story or in the acting. Would love to hear from other listeners.

Paul ignores Steve, Paul is not that smart. Negative and positive
