Publisher's summary

Only by looking into the past can Audrey save her future.

Audrey Eames is happy living the wanderer's life. After a near-death experience in her teens, Audrey can see people's past lives whenever her skin touches theirs, and afraid of being labeled delusional, she's never stayed in one place too long or made any deep connections.

So, when Audrey's estranged aunt dies and leaves her the historic Soberly Inn and Public House on the scenic Oregon coast, Audrey wants nothing to do with it. She is determined to sell the inn and leave town before someone discovers the power she's been hiding from the world, but clauses in her aunt's will seem to block her at every turn.

Yet once ensconced in Soberly's small town life, the people - particularly the bartender, Kellen Greene - start to grow on her, and she begins to feel that maybe she's finally found a place of her own. As accepting as the townspeople seem, Audrey fears their reactions - and Kellen's rejection - and decides to keep her visions a secret. But all is not well in Soberly. Soon after Audrey arrives, people in town start dying in the same manner as in their past lives, but in this lifetime it's murder. When suspicion starts to fall on Audrey and her new beau Kellen, Audrey vows to use her gift to find the murderer and protect the people she loves before it's too late.

Interesting book

Good and interesting story. Something different than the regular good vs evil story lines. Sandra Murphy does a good job in narrating the story.

Great Story!

I was drawn to this book when I read the book description. Being an Oregonian, I thought it would be neat to read a book with familiar places. I really like the transition from past and present but the characters love interest is what kept me going! Very well written. The Narrator could work on their Russian accent lol sounds more Italian than Russian to me

A unique and engaging story.............

Past Presence is a difficult book to classify because it is an amazing combination of mystery, romance, paranormal and chic lit. Audrey Eames is a seemingly lost soul. In her late 20's, she has spent her entire adult life traveling around the country working as a historian, and she has no ties to anyone or anything. After suffering from rheumatic fever as a teenager, she developed psychic abilities in the form of seeing past lived of the people she touches. This leads to her nomadic and lonely lifestyle, but that all changes when she finds out she inherited an inn and restaurant in a small Oregon town when her aunt dies.

Immediately upon entering town, Audrey is torn in two directions: her soul longs for her to finally make this place home, but her instincts tell her to flee town as soon as possible. As more and more obstacles mount against her being able to sell up and move quickly, Audrey also begins to meet people and make friends. When Audrey, the queen of one night stands in her own words, begins a hesitant relationship with Kellen Greene, the bartender in her restaurant, she begins to question if her aunt had the right idea all along. The author intersperses throughout the book short scenes showing the past lives of all the residents Audrey meets, and you must pay close attention to these as they foreshadow the danger to come for Audrey and her friends. Although the mystery was chilling, especially at the end, it is truly watching Audrey learn to open her heart to the possibility of love and acceptance that touched me the most. The romance is heartfelt and passionate, but the author keeps it cleans and only alludes to sex scenes. Overall, this is an amazing book, and I highly recommend it for lovers of almost any genre.

I have never listened to a narration by Sandra Murphy that wasn't incredible, and she lives up to that stellar reputation in this book. Murphy has a beautiful, smooth voice that works perfectly for male and female roles. Her delivery is absolutely flawless, and she adds the perfect level of emotion to every scenes. She could make the most boring book sound interesting, so she makes this intriguing book all the more enjoyable.

An intriguing mystery...

A mystery with a ’touch’ of the unusual. What if you could see a past life on anyone you might touch? Wouldn’t that be intriguing if sometimes frightening? This entertaining mystery will take you on that path, a path that includes murder. Audrey Eames has inherited an Inn on the Oregon Coast. Not everyone is happy to see her there.

Past Presence is a fast and fun read/listen. Glad I listened! Sandra Murphy’s narration was a pleasure. Listening enabled me to stay with the story while driving. Enjoyed the characters, the mystery and the setting. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. You can read my full review at Mystery Suspense Reviews.

I LOVED this...

I received this audio book for free at my request in exchange for an honest review....

Actually, I loved everything about this book. The narration was perfect. She did an amazing job with all the characters. It can't be easy to have to change your voice for every character, and she pulled it off perfectly. The story was also very well done. It was the perfect mix. A little bit of everything ( mystery, romance, sex, paranormal and even a little history). With all those elements it sounds like it could be corny...but definitely not. One of my favs since I got back into reading. And I've read a lot a since then so that saying a lot.

Love it!

I loved this so much I immediately went to look for more audio books by this author and narrator. The story and characters were amazing.
I thought Audrey was going to be some prude and was so happy that she seemed like someone I’d want as a friend. So many things I’d love to say but I would be spoiling parts of the story. I can say I figured out the ‘who’ before it was revealed but I am not disappointed in that.
I glad that she did not change her mind for Kellen on the big life decision she was forced to make. I’d love more from this story and town if the story were to continue. I want to visit the inn!
Sandra Murphy does an amazing job narrating. I will be looking for more from the author and narrator.
