About this listen

The creator of the Polyvagal Theory explains the principles in simple terms that are accessible to all.

Since Stephen Porges first proposed the Polyvagal Theory in 1994, its basic idea-that the level of safety we feel impacts our health and happiness-has radically shifted how researchers and clinicians approach trauma interventions and therapeutic interactions. Yet despite its wide acceptance, most of the writing on the topic has been obscured behind clinical texts and scientific jargon.

Our Polyvagal World definitively presents how Polyvagal Theory can be understandable to all and demonstrates how its practical principles are applicable to anyone looking to live their safest, best, healthiest, and happiest life. What emerges is a worldview filled with optimism and hope, and an understanding as to why our bodies sometimes act in ways our brains wish they didn't.

Filled with actionable advice and real-world examples, this book will change the way you think about your brain, body, and ability to stay calm in a world that feels increasingly overwhelming and stressful.

Helpful primer on polyvagal theory

This is a great introduction for anyone interested in the science of how our nervous system works in regard to our emotional safety and relationships with others. The narration feels a little stiff, and I genuinely thought it was an AI voice initially.

Good examples

I appreciated the many real life examples provided to correlate which a or blended state a person could be in. Makes understanding the PVT easier.

The scientific theory and practical application.

The narrator was rigid, monotone and impersonal. I loved the content of the book and the authors humility and insight. Incredibly powerful discovery!

So glad I listened

I've been curious about the PVT for a while now and was unable to finish other books about it (even those highly rated). I'm grateful that Stephen & Seth Porges wrote this book. Easy to understand and at times humorous, I found the PVT comprehensible. in addition, I thought the narration was top notch.

No chapter on the Family ... Seriously?!

Fantastic book but leaves the reader longing for solutions. The author(s) Marxist bias comes through they look at children as the responsibility of the State to "feel safe." Completely ignoring the parential responsibility to provide a stable and "safe" environment for children. You will notice that there is, conveniently, no chapter on the family. Frustrating.

Narration doesn’t sound naturally

The book is great. The narration is most likely using AI, they probably used a real person voice but generated composition with AI. It’s hard to listen…

Excellent and easy to understand…

I found this book to be extraordinarily full of information; a great help with understanding how the mind, body, feelings, thoughts, etc. all work in sync with each other in order to keep us healthy and happy. The combination of not only the information but also how it is written makes it so easy to understand such a complex topic.

Brilliant material/terrible narrator.

PVT is exciting and life changing.

The narration was gruesome impersonal elocution. Got so sleepy it was hard to focus. Supercilious speaking style I have on faster speed to hear get through.

Like a clueless substitute teacher subbing in a class where the originator of the material is transformed presented and thus makes the ideas come alive. Either Jr or Sr Porges would have been much appreciated. So frustrating
