About this listen

Our true origins are not only human, or even terrestrial, but in fact cosmic. Drawing on recent scientific breakthroughs and cross-pollination among geology, biology, astrophysics, and cosmology, Origins illuminates the soul-stirring leaps in our understanding of the cosmos. This newly revised and updated edition features such startling discoveries as the more than 5,000 newly detected exoplanets that shed light on the origins of and possibilities for life in the cosmos, and data from a host of new ground-based and spaceborne observatories that has fundamentally changed what we know about the expanding universe—and maybe even the laws of physics.

From the first image of a galaxy’s birth to tantalizing evidence of water not only on Mars but also on the asteroid Ceres, as well as moons of Jupiter and Saturn, coauthors Neil deGrasse Tyson and Donald Goldsmith conduct an exhilarating tour of the cosmos with clarity and exuberance.

I loved the first edition, and love the second even more! This book is a must have for anyone with even the slightest interest in astrophysics. I've listened to it several times, and will listen several more. Enjoy!

Science, put simply.

This work is very inclusive and somewhat technical. The detail is sometimes confusing , but I suppose since in not an astrophysicist that might be expected.

Got it covered

Origins is the best recording I’ve ever played on Audible so far. I am not particularly scientific, many things were way over my head, but I was mesmerized by all of it.

Beyond Excellent

I've never taken chemistry. so it was a bit dry but, the story telling kept me interested enough to hang on and keep learning some more about it. I can understand a little better how we're we're connected. how we measure space and know what stuff is made of.
I made it thru the journey and was fascinated by the art of science. Sure is a big space we live in. and we "see" and think we understand thru math.

a trip into the universe and back

If you don't know the topic, don't narrate books on it... A ton of mispronunciation of scientific terms... Make the book hard to follow and listen to,

The narrator is AWFUL

Fascinating, once I got used to the narrator's accent. Is this fifteen words yet?

Fascinating, once I got used to the narrator's accent

The narrator speaks in an odd fashion that is sort of lime a monotone dirge with oddly mispronounced vowels that make this book a deary mess. It's as if a poorly designed AI voiced the AI but has no concept of inflection, pacing, or diction is reading it. The experience is so bad I'm just going to buy the book and read it manually. Shameful that Dr. Tyson's work is so depressingly and unimaginatively presented.

Unintelligible, Boring, Narrator Ruins Book

This guy’s voice is annoying. The original narrator was much better. Saddened they eliminated the old version. Outdated yes… but much more enjoyable to listen to

Original narrator much better

Phenomenal cover, and it has NDTs name so I got it, just barely informative, just plain oatmeal

There is nothing here

The content is updated and comprehensive but the narration is not enjoyable and I stopped after few chapters. Missed Mr. Tyson's voice from the first one.

Narrator's voice and style is not good.
