Acerca de esta escucha

When a reality show about former child stars overcoming addiction culminates in murder, their therapist must take a closer look into their lives—and her own, from USA Today bestselling author Lucinda Berry.

Dr. Laurel Harlow can’t believe she’s agreed to do a reality TV show. But her years as a chemical dependency counselor and personal history with the show’s director make her the obvious choice. Treating a mansion full of former child stars on the road to recovery is the tallest order of her career—especially when one of them turns up dead while the cameras are still rolling.

In a house full of narcissists vying for the spotlight, everyone’s hiding something…including Laurel. An investigation could expose a past she’d rather keep buried. But among the attention-starved patients, only one of them is a predator. And Laurel is skilled at spotting a predator when she sees one.

As she hunts a killer in her present, the unsettling truths of Laurel’s past are forced into the light. But this time, she’ll face her demons head on. She’ll stop at nothing to expose a murderer, even if it means risking everything she holds dear.

The tragedy of 1 in 4 is pervasive thru out the book but there also is so much more to this story. The content is difficult at times, but unfortunately it’s relevant and the author seems accurate and mindful about the topics and her creative storytelling.

I’ve read everything by LB and I think this book has got to take top prize for mind blown and cluster puckery after detonation. Character development is excellent as well as in depth detail and description in each scene. The writing is exemplary. I was hooked and listened all the way through. Bravo!

Narration by all was so good. There is a vast array of emotions from all the cast and the narrators portrayed them so genuinely. I may be haunted forever by one for Laurel!!

OMG What A Story

Lucinda is one of my favorite authors, she’s an auto buy for me but this wasn’t one of my favorite books. The ending felt rushed and without closure and I am a reader that really needs a HEA so without that, I’m always disappointed. There wasn’t really any twists, it kind of showed you who the “bad guy” was and that was it. Narrators were great and I liked the story, just not the ending.

Captivating story and narration but it NEEDS A TRIGGER WARNING. I had a hard time turning it off.

Lucinda Berry delivers another amazing psychological thriller and I couldn't stop listening/ reading. The premise is unique—former child stars battling addiction in a reality TV setting, with a therapist-turned-reluctant-TV-star thrown into the chaos. It’s a clever mix of suspense, dark psychology, and reality-show drama.

Dr. Laurel Harlow is a fascinating lead. She's smart, flawed, and layered, and watching her navigate a house full of unpredictable personalities while trying to keep her own secrets buried adds a great level of tension. The murder mystery is well-paced, and I enjoyed piecing together the clues as the story unfolded.

The book does a great job of balancing the glitz and dysfunction of Hollywood with deeper themes like trauma, addiction, and redemption. While a few parts felt a bit over the top (which honestly fits the reality show vibe), it only added to the fun.

If you enjoy thrillers with strong female leads, psychological twists, and just the right amount of drama, this one's definitely worth the read. Four stars from me—I’m already looking forward to what Lucinda Berry writes next!

2.5 STARS

ONE IN FOUR starts off as one story and morphs into another. The first part is true to the blurb, a death in a reality show rehab house might be a crime. The second part involves a whole lotta torture and pain that doesn’t align with its supposed reasoning. The ending was a huge let down, because there was no wrap up. I don’t mean loose ends, I mean the book just stops without any resolution.

I’m a big Lucinda Berry fan, but this isn’t one of her best.

Berry has written better books

I was really excited to read this book, the synopsis made it sound like it would center around a TV show with former child stars dealing with @ddicti0n, which I thought would be a powerful and interesting storyline. Unfortunately, the book didn’t deliver on that in the way I thought it would. This part of the plot ended up being barely mentioned, which left me feeling a bit misled.
The pacing also felt off. It seemed like a big chunk of the story was missing in the middle, and it rushed straight to the ending without much buildup or depth. I also struggled to connect with the characters. There wasn’t much development or backstory, aside from the "Her (Then)" chapters, so I never really felt invested in them. That said, it was a quick and easy read that kept me engaged in the mystery. I did find myself wanting to know what would happen next, which kept me interested.
⚠️ One thing I think is really important to mention is that the book is filled with heavy and potentially tr!gger!ng content. Themes such as su!c!d3, s3lf h@rm, b*ll!ng, and s3xu@l @$$@ult weren’t clearly flagged ahead of time. And they made up a large, if not the entire, portion of the story. If you’re sensitive to these certain topics, I’d recommend reading with caution.

Lucinda did it again! My stomach hurts, my brain hurts & I feel so satisfied. The sign of a great story IMHO is when you hear yourself yelling at the characters lol. It had so many great things.

this was terrible. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone but it was just awful. Don't tell addicts that's it's OK to... and what is like after you do... irresponsible and amazingly ridiculous. who is HER. Who knows
