About this listen

While five months pregnant, clinical psychologist Dr. Nicole Anders received a phone call from her father that would shatter her heart and bring her to her knees.

"He's not in pain anymore", her father said, to the sounds of her sobbing in disbelief. Nicole's younger brother, Cody, had accidentally overdosed, taking his last breath earlier that morning.

In her profession, Dr. Anders specializes in trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), working with combat veterans and sexual assault survivors. While no stranger to loss, this devastating trauma marked for her a profound firsthand experience with PTSD and heartbreaking grief.

One Hundred Goodbyes is the journey....

Nicole takes you along her journey through the grieving process, touching on all five stages as she wrestles with love and loss; from shock and denial, to acceptance.

This timely account of losing a loved one is a testament to the tragedies inflicted by the opiate crisis - eye-opening, heart-wrenching, and powerfully honest.

Tender Mercies

I am inspired to allow myself to heal more deeply by hearing Nicole’s story. Her processing of anger especially touched and comforted me. I am not alone. WE are not alone. The path is at our feet. I chose to walk it with heart, following those who have gone before, beckoning those who quake behind me. Thank you, Nichole!

Beautifully/Painful

I’ve read a hundred stories about people losing loved ones to opiate overdose. This one spoke to my soul. I’m glad I was able to listen to Dr. Anders narrate. You can hear all of the emotions in her voice. The book is full of beautiful letters written to her brother. Wrapped around the letters were such clear explanations of each stage of grief. Such a brave way to honor her brother. Seems like some of her goals were for Cody’s story to help heal, help change perspective and help people know that they are not alone. Goal achieved!
