Acerca de esta escucha
The death of a child is that unimaginable loss no parent ever expects to face. In Beyond Tears, nine mothers share their individual stories of how to survive in the darkest hour. They candidly share with other bereaved parents what to expect in the first year and long beyond:
- Harmonious relationships can become strained
- There is a new definition of what one considers "normal"
- The question "how many children do you have?" can be devastating
- Mothers and fathers mourn and cope differently
- Surviving siblings grieve and suffer as well
There simply is no answer to the question "why?" This sharing in itself is a catharsis, and because each of these mothers lost her child at least seven years before, she is in a unique position to provide perspective on what newly bereaved parents can expect to feel. The mothers of Beyond Tears offer reassurance that the clouds of grief do lessen with time and that grieving parents will find a way to live and even laugh again.
The full list of contributors includes Madelaine Perri Kasden, Phyllis Levine, Ariella Long, Rita Volpe, and Ellen Mitchell.

Historia
On Death and Dying began as a theoretical book, an interdisciplinary study of our fear of death and our inevitable acceptance of it. It introduced the world to the now-famous five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. On Grief and Grieving applies these stages to the process of grieving and weaves together theory, inspiration, and practical advice, all based on Kübler-Ross' and Kessler's professional and personal experiences.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Psychic medium Matt Fraser, author of When Heaven Calls, is back to unpack the number one question folks ask him: “What happens after death?” Although we might expect a complicated answer, it’s actually pretty simple: We never die!

In Grief Day by Day, Jan Warner draws on her own extensive experience and the experiences of the 2 million followers on her Grief Speaks Out Facebook page to offer hope in its most practical form. This audiobook does not look to offer a solution to grief. Rather, it provides supportive, useful guidance to help you create a life in which peace, and even gratitude, can coexist with your grief. There is no “right way” to grieve, and there is no right way to use this book.

We're awkward and uncertain; we avoid, ignore, or even deny feelings of sadness; we offer platitudes; we send sympathy bouquets whittled out of fruit.

This is his mother's story. Not only did she lose her precious son through suicide, but she also lost her understanding of him as an honorable man. Every one of us sooner or later walks through hell. The hell of being hurt, the hell of hurting another. The hell of cancer, the hell of a reluctant, thunking shovel full of earth upon the casket of someone we deeply loved, the hell of betrayal, the hell of betraying, the hell of divorce, the hell of a kid in trouble...the hell of knowing that this year, like any year, may be our last. We all walk through hell. The point is not to come out empty-handed.... There is real and profound power in the suffering we endure if we transform that suffering into a more authentic, meaningful life.

When a loved one dies, the pain of loss can feel unbearable—especially in the case of a traumatizing death that leaves us shouting, “NO!” with every fiber of our body. The process of grieving can feel wild and nonlinear—and often lasts for much longer than other people, the nonbereaved, tell us it should. Organized into fifty-two short chapters, Bearing the Unbearable is a companion for life’s most difficult times, revealing how grief can open our hearts to connection, compassion, and the very essence of our shared humanity.

When social worker Lisa Keefauver became a widow in 2011, she was alarmed to discover that even though 100 percent of us experience loss, we’re living in a grief illiterate world. In her work as a therapist and in her search for help in the wake of her own loss, Keefauver began to see how the misguided stories we consume about grief lead to unnecessary suffering. Responding to the problematic narratives that grief is something to move on from after completing the five stages like some sort of to-do list, Keefauver became a grief activist.

My 24 year old son was murdered by two drug dealers who were fighting over a shotgun. He was not involved in the fight but was hit when the gun went off. Wrong place wrong time wrong people. I am devastated. This book helped me very much with some of the feelings I’m going through . I may listen to it several more times.

I needed to hear this
This was an amazing book to listen to. The tone was beautiful. The different versions or sides of a story between the husband and wife, and between the women and the men were displayed wonderfully. It’s always good to know that there are others who are going through and who have gone through what I have gone throug. We are different yet the same. It’s also sad to know there’s others who have that same pain That I have — no one deserves to know what this feels like.

Helpful
This was the first book I listened to after the sudden, traumatic lose of my beautiful, healthy 26 year old adult son 17 months ago. I have since listened to many other books and read other hard copy books on grief. At that time I could only listen in short increments and I cried many times throughout this book. But since these other mothers were able to tell their honest story about their traumatic loss, I guess I figured that I could make it through this journey too. They spoke of how they endured and I believe it gave me hope. I listened to it at least 3 times. I highly recommend this book.

Comforting and familiar
My daughter died 25 days ago. I feel like this book could have been written by me because the emotions the women who wrote the book went through are exactly what I am going through. It is comforting to know that my grief is "normal" and that I'm not losing my mind. I have read several grief books. Beyond Tears is by far the best. Thank you!
