About this listen

Irin Carmon: I heard you can do 20 push-ups.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Yes, but we do 10 at a time. And then I breathe for a bit and do the second set.

Nearly a half century into being a feminist and legal pioneer, something funny happened to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: The octogenarian won the Internet. Across America, people who weren't even born when Ginsburg made her name are tattooing themselves with her face, setting her famously searing dissents to music, and making viral videos in tribute. In a class of its own, and much to Ginsburg's own amusement, is the Notorious RBG Tumblr, which juxtaposes the diminutive but fierce Jewish grandmother with the 350-pound rapper featuring original artwork submitted from around the world.

Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg offers a rich, intimate, unprecedented look at the justice and how she changed the world. From Ginsburg's refusal to let the slammed doors of sexism stop her to her innovative legal work, from her before-its-time feminist marriage to her perch on the nation's highest court - with the fierce dissents to match - get to know RBG as never before. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah.

Editorial reviews

"Narrator Andi Arndt's bright, authoritative voice fits the book's reverent tone. She uses a conversational style to humanize Ginsburg and moves the story along efficiently. Arndt adds excellent diction and comfortable pacing to make this audiobook a satisfying experience." ( AudioFile)

Featured Article: The Best Women Narrators to Listen to Right Now

One of the biggest questions listeners have when it comes to approaching a new audiobook is whether or not they'll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable, as audiobooks are at least a few hours long (with many clocking in at 20 hours long—or more!), and sticking with one person's voice for that time period can feel like a big commitment. We rounded up some of the best female narrators with a robust list of audiobooks under their belts.

A hero for women

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audiobook, however not having the print version available is disconcerting. The narrator makes frequent references to "a chart" or some other table that has information being talked about. Overall the material about Justice Ginsburg is fascinating and I learned a great deal about her.

Would you recommend Notorious RBG to your friends? Why or why not?

I am considering suggesting that a group that I'm a part of read the book and discuss it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen as I walk for my health, and listen in segments If I had the print version, I might read it in a different manner.

Great History!

I knew of RBG, but did not know her illustrious history and how much she has done for women's rights. She's probably one of the most qualified justices on SCOTUS - women need to be superlative to be treated equally sometimes. Young women should read this book!

Radiant, Beautiful, Graceful - RGB

Wow! This was somewhat rambling, but I very much enjoyed it. She is one amazing woman, and all women are fortunate that she's in the Supreme Court.

A small woman; A giant among men!

In this day and age, more than any other time in our nation's history, it is important that any American, and anyone who cares about the United States of America, democracy, human rights, and equality, knows the work of RBG.
The book addresses her legal achievements, and provides the context and personal background that created such a magnificent woman.

A ray of hope

How can you hear the life of RBG and not be inspired? This important story should be a must read in high schools. I knew RBG was an important figure in the women's rights arena, but it was HOW she did what she did that is the most important aspect for me. She was a champion for ALL parents, not just women. This book does a really nice job of explaining RBG's strategy for change. It reads a bit dry at times, but with a subject matter like this, it doesn't need to be any more colorful or dramatic to be successful.

Could be my favorite

This could be my favorite audio book of all time! What an amazing woman RBG is and she is portrayed beautifully in this great performance. Andi Arndt reminds me of a young Cokie Roberts.
