What would happen if an author went back to the darker themes of the original fairy tales for his plots, and then crossed the Disney princesses with Charlie's Angels? What's delivered is The Stepsister Scheme, a whole new take on what happened to Cinderella and her prince after the wedding. And with Jim C. Hines penning the tale, listeners can bet it won't be "and they lived happily ever after."

In the contested and unexplored territories at the edge of the Empire, a boat is making its laborious way up stream. Riding along the banks are the mercenaries hired to protect it - from raiders, bandits and, most of all, the stretchers, elf-like natives who kill any intruders into their territory. A great beginning
This novella is enough to make us hungry for more and shows great potential for future works from author. I long to know what will happen in this land of the five suns. How did the nomad end up as he has? What tales from his past and future are yet to be told? What will become of this shattered kingdom? The characters have tickled the imagination so far and are ready to have their stories further unfold.
