Publisher's summary

When an old friend reaches out to Sinclair Crowe, he and his wife, Jayne Frost, head to New Orleans for what they think will be simple visit before they finally make the journey back to the North Pole. They’re looking forward to some fun and great food.

But things in the Big Easy are about to get downright difficult when a sudden death and a shocking incident threaten Sinclair’s friend’s reputation. It’s pretty obvious things are not as they seem, but digging deeper means putting themselves in danger.

Can Jayne and Sinclair find justice for all those involved without getting nixed in New Orleans?

New Orleans

There's no secret the talking cats are my favorite part of the crow family and this book doesn't disappoint. Jayne gets lots of sugar and finds a mystery to solve. this crime solving duo is always a great time and I enjoyed their explorations of New Orleans!

Nixed in New Orleans

Nixed in New Orleans by Kristen Painter
A Frost & Crowe mystery series #4. Paranormal cozy mystery. Spinoff from the Jayne Frost series, which is a spinoff from the Nocturne Falls series. Can be read separately from the prior series but best in order for this particular series. Alternating POV.
Jayne Frost and Sinclair Crowe travel in their well decked-out mobile home to New Orleans to visit with Matt Galloway, a friend of Sinclair’s. While there, one of Matt’s employees is found dead. Having met the employee, Jayne and Sinclair know something isn’t right and they decide to help in the investigation.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and audiobook for this story. The performance is narrated by Hollis McCarthy and BJ Harrison who do the full series. Both are marvelous with multiple voices and clearly expressed emotions. It’s always fun to hear the cats talking too. Chicken Party is Spider’s favorite. 🤣 I listened to this a little faster than my preferred of 1.5. I love BJ’s intonation but he is slow! I know it’s deliberate for clarity purposes but since I’m from the Midwest, I need to listen at a conversational level.

So much food! Jayne is always hungry. First, because she’s a winter elf and practically lives on sugar, and second, she’s seven months pregnant. The baby apparently has the same need for food and sugar. Do Not read this book before a meal or you’ll be searching your house for king cake, pralines, fries, cheese or pancakes with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips.
The mystery is easy to follow as Jayne and Sinclair follow the clues with the occasional help by Birdie. A little tense and worry for the baby as the villian takes advantage of Jayne but, of course, our heroes win the day.
An amusing and magical mystery. I’m heading to the kitchen now.

Trouble in the Quarter

There's trouble in the quarter when Jayne and Sin go for a visit with his long time friend. The pet sitter is found dead and someone is blackmailing Sin's friend. Are they related?

I loved this book and wish it never ended. The food of course, was to die for. One villain in the story was so bad to Jayne. I was surprised at the lengths they went to. There was never a dull moment and we even got to see some of Birdie.

I absolutely adore Jayne and Sinclair, so it was a real treat to listen to their newest book!! It has everything we’ve come to love in their books. A great mystery, lots of sleuthing and danger. This one though, the danger was intense and had me on the edge of my seat!! I had to find out what would happen!! Such a great book!! I highly recommend!!!

Another great addition to the series

Great character development. Interesting descriptions of New Orleans. Fanciful descriptions of the food. And spider comes through in the end. Which is nice that they finally get around to using his abilities :-)

Kristen Painter once again delivers a fantastic story, full of mystery, suspense, and that irresistible charm we’ve come to expect from Jayne and Sinclair. When an old friend calls them to the Big Easy, they’re expecting a laid-back visit filled with delicious food and fun, but what they get instead is a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.
