About this listen

A smart, funny, entertaining novel of love and family for our times, Nice to Come Home To breaks the mold of the conventional love story - and will have listeners cheering!

Everyone around Prudence Whistler, 36, seems to be settling down. Her once single girlfriends have lately married and had babies. Her gay best friend is discussing marriage with his partner. Even her irresponsible sister is the single mother of a two-year-old.

Setting about redesigning her life, Pru finds herself accumulating an unusal ad hoc family around her, both within her crowded apartment and in the broader community of Adams-Morgan of Washington, D.C. Endearing, romantic, witty, and satisfying, Nice to Come Home To is a charming, crowd-pleasing debut.

Not War and Peace but still....

My husband and I listened to this book as we were traveling by plane and ferry. What I would have described as "chick lit" before I read it became more as my husband was as engrossed as I was. I liked it a lot. Yes, it was pretty cliche in some places but it was still funny and touching and the perfect diversion as we were traveling. I loved the part with the cat...what a goofy name.

Very Enjoyable

At first, I thought this book might be a mistake. I wasn't too crazy about the opening chapter, and I wasn't sure if I liked the main character. I'm really glad I stuck with it though. The novel is sweet and adorable, and the characters are funny and realistic. I loved the dynamic between the two sisters -- it was familiar and made me laugh. The novel takes its time and sets up a lovely, cozy world that provides a wonderful escape.

enjoyable story and narration

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook - primarily because of the narration. If not for such amazing narration, I would've found this book to be just another cliche, single-girl-in-the-big-city story . . . with such creative narration I was able to enjoy the story much more. The reader did an outstanding job of giving each character their own distinct voice . . . it was hard to believe there wasn't an entire cast of actors telling the story. Highly recommended!

Ugh!

I stopped listening 1/2 way through. The characters were so cutesy and painfully predictable that I just couldn't take any more.
