This is a good if you are an audio learner.

Where does NCLEX-RN AudioLearn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is like all nursing books. Its dry, to the point, and most of the time vague in their explanations. I did find it helpful in that he gave a small review for each subject, a mini quick, and prep for the test. I have read the reviews and a lot say its out-dated. How many questions in nursing school did your teachers give you there were considered out dated? For my school a lot, but it was my responsibility to keep current. So you do need additional study material.

If you’ve listened to books by AudioLearn Authors before, how does this one compare?

I have never listen to a book by audio learn before. I have listen to audiobooks like this before, and I am so thankful that it is a real person and not just a a computer reading.

Which character – as performed by AudioLearn Voice Over Team – was your favorite?

All of them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

It does drag, but what nursing book doesn't.

Very passive, not effective way to learn.

At the beginning of this audiobook, there are multiple choice questions with pauses which allow you to make a guess before the answers are given to you. This is good. But at the end through pharmacology and medical terminology, they just list words and information. They don’t ask, inquire, summarize, or any other way that would allow the learning that just took place to be cemented in your head. Moreover, it’s pretty dull. They claim that the drugs are pronounced by a doctor, and therefore the pronunciations are correct, but many of the cell biology features, including proteins are mispronounced.

Frustrating

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

While this is a fair review to be used in conjunction with the Saunders' book, it is very inadequate alone. The narrator is obviously unfamiliar with medical terminology and her mispronunciations and verbal stumbling are aggravating and distracting.

What could AudioLearn Authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Hired a narrator who can pronounce medical terms correctly and/or a producer who could have corrected these problems.

Hard to get through - but OK in the car

Some of the people reading can't pronounce medical terminology which makes it a bit painful. That being said when studying for Nclex it's good to mix up with various styles of learning, so a good supplement.

Lots of Questions to Review for the NCLEX!

Any additional comments?

This audiobook provides a guide and overview on preparing the examinee for the NCLEX. The book describes the process of registering for the NCLEX and provides an overview of the format of the NCLEX exam. The audiobook also proposes critical thinking strategies for NCLEX test questions for the listener. Critical thinking strategies proposed discussed includes: eliminating wrong answers, recognizing expected outcomes, looking for clues and rewording questions.

The audiobook discusses the role of the nurse touching on leadership qualities, responsibilities of a professional nurse and legal issues. The audiobook also stresses the importance of documentation for nurses, and provides tips on paper and computerized documentation. In addition to the legalities associated with the role of the nurse, the audiobook provides a brief overview of some laws and rights. From the sciences of nursing, the audiobook provides definitions to many nursing terms and offers many different questions to help prepare the NCLEX examinee. Following each question, the answer and a detailed rationale is provided to the listener. It touches on many specialties that affect the human lifespan from pediatrics to the older adult, as well as ethical issues and theories pertaining to growth and development. The audiobook also provides a comprehensive test of 235 questions for examinees to practice while on the go.

This audiobook is great for reviewing on the go. Divided into 145 audio clips files, the learner can easily pick which section and questions they would like to focus on. Whether you are commuting or completing personal errands, this audiobook acts as a great resource to listen to while on the go. Before most sections, the reader is asked a set of practice questions to evaluate their understanding and areas of need. While completing the sections, additional questions are asked to assess the learners understanding of the material. There are plenty of assessment questions, however there is not a review on head to toe assessments. There are also dedicated sections to electrolyte imbalances and abnormal lab values. The learner can definitely learn a lot from listening to the rational provided following each question. The audiobook caters to individuals who are auditory learners, and the provided rationales are able to describe complex concepts. The audiobook is useful for the listener who has been studying for the exam for some time, or is great tool to assess the readiness of the listener. I did not find many questions or sections dedicated to discussing pathophysiology and pharmacology except some in the comprehensive test. If the listener is looking to focus more on questions pertaining to pathophysiology and pharmacology, I would recommend jumping straight to the comprehensive exam. I also found the audiobook inconsistent at times, as there were sections dedicated to mental health and geriatrics, however there were not any practice or review questions for these sections. The only review questions pertaining to mental health and geriatrics could be found in the comprehensive test.

Personally, I found that this audiobook useful when discussing issues of the lifespan. Each section provides a brief review before jumping into the practice. I found it interesting that there were two dedicated sections to positioning patients and patient care with a tube. From previous NCLEX books that I have reviewed, there was not a huge emphasis on these two topics, and it was interesting to read them. I always have found growth and development theories fascinating, however difficult to remember at times since I work with a predominately geriatric and adult population. The audiobook provides an overview of many useful and popular growth and development theories such as: Erik Erikson’s stages of psychological development, Lawrence Kohlberg and the Moral Development Model and Freud’s Psychosexual Stages of Development.

This audiobook is great listening tool in providing anticipatory guidance on the process of the NCLEX for the test taker and completing more practice questions while on the go. If the reader wants to focus more pathophysiology and/or pharmacology, I would recommend going straight to the comprehensive exam. I found it provided a brief review on some sections, however lacked in review for some other areas. I do feel that the comprehensive exam offered by the audiobook covers many areas that are tested on the NCLEX. The detailed rationales provided in the text are informative and help the listener grasp complex concepts. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this audiobook for the listener on the go, and in addition to other NCLEX test taking resources.

Good Exam Preparation.

Though I haven't had my N-CLEX exam yet, just the guide on how to take this kind of exam is very useful (I have experience with other bard exams and I think it's good). This book has regular doses for critical medications, lab normal ranges, vocabulary, etc. All the sections of it are very interesting; of course it doesn't cover everything, that's just not possible, but it's a very good review.
Three stars for performance because, good as the material is, there's a couple editions that are very noticeable and just made me feel I had a very cheap version of a good book. Also, I'm not sure the person who's presenting the material is familiar with the terms she's reading, but she pronounces several, in fact many words incorrectly or reads one thing for another (skipping syllables or exchanging letters or just not reading them correctly). Good book anyway.
