Acerca de esta escucha

A USA TODAY bestseller.

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes an epic standalone, friends-to-lovers story…with a jaw-dropping twist you won't see coming.

Skylar has been my best friend since childhood, but I secretly pine for her. One thing after another has kept us apart, and I’ve spent the last decade in fear of losing her forever.

Because of me, she left town. For years, I thought I’d never see her again.

But now she’s back…and living with him.

I don’t deserve her after everything I’ve put her through, but I can’t live without her. This is my last chance, because she’s about to make the biggest mistake of her life. I can see it her eyes: she doesn’t love the man she’s set to marry. She still loves me...which is why I have to stop her before it’s too late.

A STANDALONE novel.

Easily my favorite book of the year. When you pair Penelope Ward’s writing with the powerhouse narration of Jacob Morgan and Callie Dalton, you get magic. Jacob has this rare ability to make you feel every word, whether it’s light and funny or emotionally gutting, and Callie brings a warmth and rhythm that makes you want to keep listening. Together, they don’t just tell the story, they pull you into it.

Mitch and Skylar’s journey unfolds from childhood to adulthood, and you become deeply invested in every twist. I laughed out loud, cried hard (like ugly cried), and felt more than I have with any other book this year. It’s the kind of audiobook that doesn’t just entertain, it completely transports you. And yes, I’m now in love with Mitch. Book Boyfriend.

Penelope, please have Jacob Morgan narrate every book of yours.

My Favorite Book (and Narrator) of the Year!

I truly loved this story and the characters. As usual Jacob M. Was absolutely amazing. Callie D. Was terrible. She was so robotic. In the moments when emotions were needed she just continued to read quickly with no emotion. This made it very hard to get swept away in the story even with it being an incredible story. I really wish Andi Arndt or Angelina Rocca could have done the narration.

Great story

I want to start by saying that I don't know why Penelope Ward always gives us books that are heartbreaking. Even though the characters have their HEA it still puts us in a roller coaster of emotions. Skylar and Mitch's story broke my heart. What they went through was really sad. I do hold some resentment towards the FMC. She was the one that broke Mitch's heart and went away but the MMC felt it was his fault. Even after years of reuniting she still kept breathing his heart. I'm happy she find her true feelings and let go of her fears. Overall, it was a good book.

HEARTBREAKING

The first half of this book was so good! It tugged at my heart but around the middle point things went off the rails and everything made me angry or roll my eyes.

One thing that will always make me angry in a romance novel is when the MMC literally does not do anything wrong, but he is seen as the one in the wrong even by himself. I can usually get past it by the end, but the case of that in this book was so egregious that the anger is lingering. Hearing both the MMC and FMC talk incessantly about how much he hurt her when she in fact caused her own hurt feelings, in such a HUGE way, was so incredibly frustrating and i kept sitting there wondering if I was crazy. I kept trying to replay the events that happened, wondering if missed something, but he did not do anything wrong, literally no fault to be had, in fact he did what she manipulated him into doing even, but it went a way she didn’t expect and she spent nearly the rest of the book talking about how he wasn’t “safe” because he could hurt her again, meanwhile she was the one who was endlessly causing him pain their entire adult life, after he showed her nothing but love and loyalty, and was even ready to sacrifice opportunities he had for her.

Sometimes I just think a book is ok or don’t care for it, but sometimes a book makes me outright angry and this one made me angry.

as for the audio, Jacob Morgan was, as always fantastic. he pours his all into every performance and you feel it in the way he delivers the lines. Callie on the other hand, I just can never get on board with her. I get nothing from her performances, they are robotic and emotionless.

This book made me so angry (but jacob morgan will always make me happy)
