About this listen

Karen Rhodes was born with a hole in her heart, but that was just the start of her problems. As a child, she contracted meningococcal meningitis. But her world was really turned upside down when she was diagnosed with Cushing's disease and underwent brain surgery. This is her story, in her words.

bad narrator

I was just diagnosed with Cushing's and wanted to get another person's story, but the age and lisping of the narrator in my ear made it hard to listen.

Play faster and it will sound better

The elderly and frail voice reading this book does not fit in with the 36 year old that wrote the book. At times it sounded as if they were squishing her arm or stepping on her toe. I got through it because I cared about the content and have empathy for the author but wished someone younger and stronger would have read it. I played it in 1.4x and became much more approachable. I do wish the content was more descriptive of the condition and would have provided some of the research she probably did. It was ok but its more of a short memoir than a journey through discovering the illness.

Helpful

Some parts of the story weren’t really relevant to cushings primarily however it gave me a much better sense of why to look forward to moving forward potentially! Thanks!
