About this listen

The Grand Slam Club. Is it worth murdering for?

Cuba - a land of classic cars, beautiful beaches, salsa music, and the best cigars in the world. When Mike’s friend, Jack Trout, asks Kelly and Mike to join his wife and him on an exploratory trip to a Cuban island, it’s an invitation they can’t resist.

Mike’s dream of fly-fishing the saltwater flats on the exotic island is quickly replaced when he’s asked by the local constable to help solve the murder of a British fly-fishing guide, Dudley Samms. Jack becomes a suspect and his wife, Carola, asks Kelly to help solve the crime.

Plenty of quirky characters have reasons to wish Dudley dead, but who killed him? The Englishman who is the head of one of the largest international banks in the world? The American with no visible means of support, but who has plenty of money to fish all around the world? The victim’s wife? One of the Cuban fishing guides? Or was it Jack?

This is the eighth book in the popular Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series. It is loosely based on a trip the two-time USA Today best-selling author took to Cuba.

Entertaining Cozy Mystery

Murder in Cuba is the 8th book in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series by Dianne Harman. This is the first book by this author I have read or listened to but I will definitely be reading more.

Although this story follows the main characters in this series, Kelly and Mike, I was able to pick it up and follow the storyline easily without having to read the previous installments. In this book, Kelly and Mike are invited on a fishing trip in Cuba by Mike’s friend Jack who is looking to expand his fishing tours business. Looking forward to a fun-filled week of fishing and days on the beach the two couples, Kelly and Mike and Jack and Carola arrive at the Cuban resort. There they discover that the big competition achievement is to capture the Grand Slam….catching a certain set of elusive fish in one day. Intrigue ensues as Jack discovers one of the other participants is out to steal his contract from him. When an English banker unexpectedly shows up dead, Mike is recruited to help the local police solve the murder. This story includes many twists and turns as Jack becomes a suspect and Kelly and Carola set out on their own clandestine investigation. At just over 4 hours, this was a relatively quick listen and was a fun way to fill an afternoon.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator, Jamie Lynn. She did an excellent job giving each character their own personality.

I recommend this book and this series for any cozy mystery fan!

Love this series!

This is # 8 in the Cedar Bay series. And this is my favorite series by Dianne Harman. Kelly and Mike have headed to Cuba. Mike was invited there by his friend Jack to get a chance to do some fly fishing. The next thing you know one of the fishermen is found murdered. And Mike is off to help with the investigation. And Kelly and Jack’s wife are doing some secret investigating on their own. Kelly is adopted by another animal but Mike keeps telling her they can not adopt another animal. There are fun characters, humorous scenes, and yummy food throughout the story!

Endearing Cozy

Dianne Harman has created another charming mystery for the main protagonists from the Cedar Bay Cozy series. It was a nice change to see the characters visiting Cuba for the setting of the mystery. Dianne Harman's books are a very quick read and although the story depicts a murder, the descriptions are not overtly graphic in detail. Jamie Lynn's narration is good and her voice is pleasant. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Murder She Wrote Goes To Cuba

Getting the contract for tourists to go fly-fishing in Cuba leads to murder. An enjoyable mix of nosey, eaves dropping women and murder for professional gain. Throw in a stray cat, multiple suspects, good food, and you have a fun, clean mystery. I was gifted this from the author.
