About this listen

Polly Perks had to become a boy in a hurry. Cutting off her hair and wearing trousers was easy. Learning to fart and belch in public and walk like an ape took more time. And now she's enlisted in the army, and searching for her lost brother.

But there's a war on. There's always a war on. And Polly and her fellow recruits are suddenly in the thick of it, without any training, and the enemy is hunting them. All they have on their side is the most artful sergeant in the army and a vampire with a lust for coffee. Well...they also have the Secret. And as they take the war to the heart of the enemy, they have to use all the resources of the Monstrous Regiment.

Critic reviews

"Like Jonathan Swift, Pratchett uses his other world to hold up a distorting mirror to our own, and like Swift he is a satirist of enormous talent...incredibly funny...compulsively readable." (The Times)

Excellent

This was an experiment for me. Prior to this, I'd already read the print version of every book I'd downloaded, and to the point that when listening to an abridged version, I'd know precisely where the editor had cut and pasted. This was the first bok I hadn't yet read, and I have to say, it did not change the level of enjoyment one bit. Tony Robinson was brilliant here, as always.

stay away from abridgements

What made the experience of listening to Monstrous Regiment the most enjoyable?

im not sure if this is typical of all abridged versions however if youve read the book you will be disappointed. Tony robinson is great however a story cant help but suffer when huge chunks are cut out.take my advise search for an unabridged version, buy the cd or just buy the book, terry pratchett cant possibly be proud of this version
