Acerca de esta escucha

In Mississippi Jack, the fifth installment in the Bloody Jack series, the intrepid Jacky Faber, having once again eluded British authorities, heads west, hoping that no one will recognize her in the wilds of America. There she tricks the tall-tale hero Mike Fink out of his flatboat, equips it as a floating casino-showboat, and heads south to New Orleans, battling murderous bandits, British soldiers, and other scoundrels along the way.

Will Jacky's carelessness and impulsive actions ultimately cause her beloved Jaimy to be left in her wake? Bold, daring, and downright fun, Jacky Faber proves once again that with resilience and can-do spirit, she can wiggle out of any scrape...well, almost.

I LOVE this series. I can't get enough of Jacky Faber and her mischievous ways, and Katherine Kellgren does an amazing performance. I've not heard any other narrator actually sing the songs, and she really puts her all into these books.

That said this was probably my least favorite book in the series to date. The adventure seemed pointless, dry and long. By no means was it bad, just not L.A. Meyer's best work. Definitely don't skip it as there are some important plot points that occur in the book, but I have to say the book after this one was a whole lot better.

Love the series, not keen on this book

Nor does Katherine Kellgren's narration. Another fantastic chapter in Jacky's adventures, beautifully told in the most perfect voice.

Jacky Faber never disappoints!

I am a 40-yr old fan of this series. I read book 3, but did audio for 1,2 & 4, and let me tell you, I wish I had done it for #3 - I really felt I missed out on something! Kellgren is impossibly brilliant in her voicework and narration. If I had read book 4, I would have never heard her take on Mike Fink, and that is very scary, as it is the most annoyingly hilarious thing thus far in the series...or as funny as hearing mam'selle call Jacky "preciousssss". I now walk around saying "Well, helloooooo, preciousssssss", but no one understands.

Kellgren does it again!

All of the Jackie Faber books by L.A. Meyer are superbly written and wonderful for adults and children alike. A great combination of adventure, suspense, historical insights, and a love of folk music - all as informative as they are entertaining.

The highest praise goes for the reading of Katherine Kellgren. I have a long commute and have listened to many audiobooks, and I can say that without question Ms. Kellgren's presentation is absolutely the best I have heard. In this series, she is able to present a wide range of characters - male and female, British and American, Cockney and Native American - in uniquely distinguishable voices that are accurate and convincing. She also sings a number of British, Irish and American folk songs beautifully! Obviously I am way beyond impressed with her talent, and plan to listen to some other books simply because they are narrated by her.

Best narrated books ever!

Yes, Jackie Favor is excitable, reckless, and often over the top, but she is smart, talented, daring, funny, loyal, and vulnerable. I get a kick out of her adventures and misadventures. And I'm nowhere near being a young adult.

The series continues to delight me

Truthfully, this is the last of the bloody jack series that I really like after this one the stories just were not that good to me.

But they are worth listening to. The narrator of all the bloody jack stories is really great. And the author, did a good job of keeping the series alive and give g us a look at what history was line with kind of a modern prospective on it.

Part of my problem after this point is Jamie is not the best match for our Jackie, Lord Richard Allen was far better for her. And as the series continues that becomes more and more apparent.

The last of the good ones
