About this listen

Twenty years ago, his father saved the world. Or so the history books will probably say once someone gets around to writing them. All Mihalis knows is the world he has been raised into. It's not a bad world, as things ago, he has a big and loving family, but there is the ongoing "war" that promises to be on-going for a good many years to come.

Raised to the blade by his mother, and taught not only her ways as well as a good many of the ways of her people, but also the ways of his father's other wives, as well as the ways of his magic, Mihalis has had a very thorough education. Even if a fair deal of that education is in the arts of war.

But all he really wants to do is to prove himself. To go out into the world and show that yes, he is his father's son, and that yes, he is his own man, to find his own way in the world.

Warning: Mihalis does contain many of those things that the previous series was known for: bad jokes, poor modern culture references, obscure song references, violence, and yes, what you've all been waiting for: sex. Now some people don't seem to understand that these warnings are done as much as a joke as a spoiler alert, to alert the prudes that yes, like all modern science fiction and urban fantasy stories, there is sex in the story! Heaven forfend that these quivering fragile flowers should listen to any modern romance! I dare say they'd die straight away from the nonstop kinkfest that is modern romance!

There is all sorts of sordid and kinky stuff that's been done while I wrote this book and most of it was done by you! You dear fans! So let us not go into this cold dark night alone or afraid! Because we know what that dreaded noise in the shadows is! That moaning and groaning and the rattling of chains! That noise is US!

(Have fun).

Be prepared!

If you are a diehard Leland King fan then you may have some issues with Chris and Jess’ take on well established voices by LK. I miss Callie. BUT…if you let that go as I had to it’s still an awesome story, very well done and is definitely a new great start on hopefully another lengthy Valens saga!

pretty good

Felt allot like a game, not a novel. Performed wonderfully, writing imaginative, but lacks depth.

another great Jan Stryvant book but...

so since the original valence Legacy I followed the author and the book series pretty heavily and when I heard that he was planning on making books for most if not all of Sean's kids I was super excited read the book long before the audiobook came out books were great audiobook was great as well the only problem that I have is the change of readers switching from the original voice actor to Christopher Boucher and Jessica threet even with there great voice acting and they're superb voice acting in the past having gone through 13 plus books of one reader and having their voice acting and their intonations of all the characters and the language and the names of the Demons now switching over to Jessica and Boucher well they did a great job it was very hard not to correct them when they said a name of the character or the name of a demon or the way that they spoke of the characters throughout the book. overall I would have give it 100% other than just the difference between the voice actor for 13 + books to these new versions of the character

Good Story

This is the first book in the spin off series about the Valens children. This is a good story and I would not classify it as a stand alone story.

I wound highly recommend listening to the Senior Valens stories first.

This book was narrated by two narrators new to the series. While both of them did a good job on an overall basis the communication about where all of the prior characters were from showed lacking when random characters that were in Sean Seniors life had accents from all over the freaking place when most of them were from Utah.

Individually though Christopher Boucher and Jessica Theet were enjoyable to listen in their respective performances

Great continuation of the world, but

The story is a great continuation of the world. As usual, the author is able to draw the reader (at least in my case) into the story and feel the emotional turmoil of the MC. I understand it is not always possible to have the same reader for a long story line, especially when there is a major break in the story, but I found the use of non US accents for most of Sean's kids jarring. While some of the mothers rightly have foreign accents, why would the kids since they all grew up in the same household? It is especially jarring that Mihalis' sisters have very strong accents when he does not. And why does Troy, son of Roxie, have what sounds like it is supposed to be an African accent? It almost seems that most of the kids have the accents of their mothers heritage, even if their family has lived in the western US for generations.

I love it!!

I do miss Leland King to do Sean, and the classic gang, but will admit I like the new guy for "Mike". This book is a great spin off, and I can not wait for more to come. Jan Stryvant is one of my favorite authors. His books feel like watching your favorite anime.

Excellent Story!

This is a very well written story that pulls one in and draggs one right along for the ride.
I'm looking forward to the next installments.
The Bubba Likes it. Do recommend.
BTW: I've become a big fan of Jessica Threet's work as a voice actor.

Perfect combination of phenomenal story and superb narration

The author takes the reader several years after the conclusion off The Valens Legacy to follow the exploits of Mahalis - Lion/Dark Elf son of Sean and Calli in this, the first episode of the spin-off series The Valens Heritage. While the central characters from Legacy are present, they play a secondary role to the title character.

The richness of each episode of Legacy grew, and the premier episode of Heritage benefits from it. The author has the luxury of fully developed characters to launch Heritage, and he does so superbly. I fully expect Heritage to be a blockbuster akin to Legacy, maybe even bigger.

Heritage has been blessed with the formidable talents of Christopher Boucher and Jessica Threet - a premier narration team, and two of the top professionals in their industry. Together, they bring INCREDIBLE richness and energy to Mihalis. Make no mistake - while Leland King IS the voice of The Valens Legacy, Heritage is a new series, and Boucher/Threet bring a fresh, new energy and vibrancy to it. Be mindful of reviews that trash this narration team. Note how they DESPISE Christopher Boucher simply because he isn’t Leland King. Is that a legitimate review, or simply a juvenile rant from a spoiled man-child who can’t deal with change? PLEASE - have a listen to Mihalis to decide for yourself. And while you’re at it, have a listen to the superb job Leland King did with The Valens Legacy - you will NOT be disappointed!
