About this listen

An enemies to lovers, sports romance from #1 Amazon, WSJ and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

The world loves Maverick Houston. Me? I’ve hated him since we were ten.

It’s not exactly easy to escape your childhood nemesis when your parents are best friends who live on the same block. Through countless vacations, parties and holidays, Maverick and I have spent the past decade trading insults.

Until that family dinner when his mother tells us she’s dying. When she asks us to forget the past and start fresh. That’s how I found myself on a date with the Treasure State Wildcats football star. The campus playboy. The boy I kissed when I was three. The man who is the bane of my existence.

He’s arrogant. He’s blunt. He’s too handsome for his own good. But if he has a single, redeeming merit, the guy sure does love his mom. And that’s why I started fake dating Maverick Houston. That’s why I made him a proposition of my own. That’s how this sham of a relationship ruined my life.

The world loves Maverick Houston. Me? I hate that he made me love him too.

5 STARS! Emotional enemies to lovers romance!

Merit by Devney Perry is an intensely emotional sports romance that delivers all the feels! This slowly burning, enemies-to-lovers story follows Maverick, the brooding college football star, and Stevie, his fiery childhood friend turned enemy, as they navigate a fake relationship that quickly turns into something achingly real. Their chemistry is electric, and the witty banter between them is both sharp and hilarious, making their journey from animosity to affection utterly captivating.

Perry masterfully builds the tension, blending steamy moments with deeply emotional layers as Maverick and Stevie confront their shared past and personal struggles. Maverick’s vulnerability and Stevie’s resilience make them a couple you can’t help but root for. The small-town setting adds charm and depth to their story, while the college football backdrop brings an exciting energy. Perry’s storytelling is exceptional, weaving together passion, humor, and heart in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable. I listened to the audiobook, and the performances delivered by Megan Wicks and Robert Hatchet were outstanding. Their natural chemistry brought these characters to life in my ear buds. Merit by Devney Perry gets 5 smooches from me!

I loved this story and I’m sad it’s the end of the series. A perfect end of a series

The feelings

I absolutely devoured this book just like I do with all of Davney Perry’s books!

What a way to end this series, it absolutely wrecked me but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

my favorite of the Treasure State Series

I loved Maverick and Stevie. Narration was great and story was so heartfelt and sweet. My only wish is that the childhood beef had been more...serious I girls. It seemed ultra petty lol. Still loved the book!

Emotional

Merit is the fourth book in the Treasure State Wildcats series. Maverick and Stevie’s families were best friends, and they hated each other since they were 10 years old. However, they needed to fake date to help convince his mother it was real as his mother was dying of cancer. They realized that they didn’t actually hate each other, ever, and that they weren’t really fake dating.

This book! It was harder to get through. Maverick was a jackass playboy in the previous books, but my gosh did he grow! Stevie did not let him get away with anything while being there for him and his family. She loved Maverick’s mom as if she was a parent to her. The emotions were raw with how Maverick, Stevie, and their families had to come to terms with end of life care and death of Maverick’s mom. Both Stevie and Maverick grew as characters, and they were both very strong characters. The romance was fantastic! This is definitely has the “always been you vibes”!
