Self-Directed Brain Change is based on a key emerging insight from neuroscience: that to keep our ancestors alive, the human brain evolved to stick to negative experiences like Velcro and shrug off the positive ones like Teflon. The good news, teaches Rick Hanson, is that we can retrain our neural structure out of "sheer survival" mode and into one of greater well-being, mental clarity, and moment-to-moment appreciation.

probrably would
Would you recommend Meditations to Change Your Brain to your friends? Why or why not?
Depends on when they want to use it. Three quarters of the way through it has some obnoxious chimes that make me jump out of my skin after being very relaxed.

Used this over and over!
What did you love best about Meditations to Change Your Brain?
I have gone back to this audio again and again. I found the authors voices soothing and calming, and the guided prompts were relateable.
What did you like best about this story?
My only comment on 'story' is that I might this book easier to re-read if the chapters or mediation segments were named in the chapter list.

A SHOT OF ENDORPHINS FOR THE BRAIN
When I need any kind of a lift, I listen to these remarkable meditations and the commonsense explanations of why this brain science is so important. I put them on when I go to sleep at night and wake up with a smile. I could have saved myself years of therapy if I had had access to this wonderful knowledge. I think this is a true work of love and one of the most useful approaches to the bleak inner and outer landscapes we live.

To the point
Practical and easy to apply in daily life. Covers the details without getting mundane. They cover the biology, research and then offer meditations to follow. Very nicely organized.

Quiet, thought proviking and calming
Where does Meditations to Change Your Brain rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
With more than 500 audio books it would be difficult to answer that question. However of the several Buddhist and self-help books, this on is in the top 1/3. I have already re-listened to this one three times. It's short yet not without power.
Try it, you'll like it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Doesn't apply
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Yes with better voices, it would have been better. The readers sounded knowledgable and sincere. A professional reader could of done more.
What???s an idea from the book that you will remember?
Breath and give yourself some credit.
Any additional comments?
Good work guys.

Absolutely effective
What made the experience of listening to Meditations to Change Your Brain the most enjoyable?
What was most enjoyable was the narration by the authors. The authors made the book therapeutic. They gave each section the imperative view point necessary for the listener to hone in and listen intently!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Meditations to Change Your Brain?
The most memorable moment was the meditation activities ! This book must be obtained as an audible version I cannot imagine it would be beneficial in paper form.
What about Rick Hanson and Rick Mendius ’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed the professional respectability and authority each Dr. Presented. This was not an ego, battle , it was team work with one goal in mind which is to help the reader develop these new skills!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
If I were to make a movie of this book, I would not change it's title, I would add a sub title , Meditation to change your brain and your mind!
Any additional comments?
Rarely do I encounter a book that I am motivated to complete in one sit that has made profound changes in my life. This book is something I cam apply to my life and I have. The concepts have given me the courage to continue with the personal work I have accomplished. I am a health care professional and I would recommend this book to my clients!

A Great Meditation Starter
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
For people of all faiths, this is a lovely introduction to mindfulness.
If you have been thinking about getting on the "mindful" train, this book explains why and how meditation can help reduce stress, break up old, negative thought patterns you thought you had to live with forever, and, overall, enhance your life.
I have recommended and/or purchased this book for many of my friends who are interested in learning more about the positive benefits of meditation and mindfulness.
This is an excellent companion to Dan Siegel's MINDSIGHT, Christopher Germer's excellent THE MINDFUL PATH TO SELF-COMPASSION, BUDDHISM FOR BUSY PEOPLE, and anything by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
I am a long-time meditator and often use the guided meditations in this audio if I'm having trouble with the monkey mind and want a little "re-grouping" to my practice. Whether leaning toward Buddhism, wanting to use mindfulness as a compliment to your established religious preferences, or simply wanting to become a fuller human in this oh-so-wonderfull-yet fraught world, this is a great book. Very inspiring toward being more aware, being kinder, being more forgiving. Especially to yourself!
