Acerca de esta escucha
Peopled with a wonderful collection of warm, wicked and weird characters, Vic Reeves’ memoir is an enchanting, surreal and utterly hilarious comic gem.
COMIC MASTERPIECE FROM ONE OF THE
BIGGEST NAMES IN BRITISH HUMOUR.
Vic, or Jim as he was known, grew up just like any other boy – terrified of his father’s immense moustaches, obsessed with owning his own crow and a master at writing his own name. Early brushes with evil prams, exploding model aeroplanes and consumption are soon swept away as Vic careers towards adulthood in this brilliant memoir of whimsical reminiscences and flighty invention.

Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have been friends for 30 years, but when life intervened, what was once a joyous and spontaneous friendship dwindled to the odd phone call or occasional catch up. Where do comedians come from? Why is it that one person is a funny bloke down the pub while another actually makes a living by standing up in front of an audience telling jokes? And where does all that material come from? Well, young Lee McKillop used to wonder that too. Growing up in his parents’ pub, small and wiry in a world of bigger and chunkier specimens, Lee quickly learned that cracking jokes was a way to get attention.

Listen to the end for an audiobook exclusive: Brett Anderson in conversation with Matt Thorne, author of Prince. Brett Anderson came from a world impossibly distant from rock star success, and in Coal Black Mornings he traces the journey that took him from a childhood as 'a snotty, sniffy, slightly maudlin sort of boy raised on Salad Cream and milky tea and cheap meat' to becoming founder and lead singer of Suede. Anderson grew up in Hayward's Heath on the grubby fringes of the Home Counties.

Ramble Book is about parenthood, boarding-school trauma, arguing with your partner, bad parties, confrontations on trains, friendship, wanting to fit in, growing up in the '80s, dead dads, teenage sexual anxiety, failed artistic endeavours, being a David Bowie fan and how everything you read, watch and listen to as a child forms a part of the adult you become. It’s also an audiobook about the joys of going off topic and letting your mind wander. And it’s about a short, hairy, frequently confused man called Adam Buxton.

enjoyed the beginning, grew weary after that.
I enjoyed the beginning, and looked forward to more of the same, but the story became less and less engaging. I persevered, listening in hope of improvement that didn't come. I recommend taking a pass on this one unless perhaps you are a fan of music groups of this time.
