Publisher's summary

"Steve West gives a lively performance of this fantasy/romance, voicing each mortal, immortal, and undead character with the requisite humor, sarcasm, and sinister whispers."- AudioFile

From Olivie Blake, the
New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six comes Masters of Death, a story about vampires, ghosts, and death itself!

Viola Marek is a struggling real estate agent, and a vampire. But her biggest problem currently is that the house she needs to sell is haunted. The ghost haunting the house has been murdered, and until he can solve the mystery of how he died, he refuses to move on.

Fox D’Mora is a medium, and though is also most-definitely a shameless fraud, he isn’t entirely without his uses—seeing as he’s actually the godson of Death.

When Viola seeks out Fox to help her with her ghost-infested mansion, he becomes inextricably involved in a quest that neither he nor Vi expects (or wants). But with the help of an unruly poltergeist, a demonic personal trainer, a sharp-voiced angel, a love-stricken reaper, and a few high-functioning creatures, Vi and Fox soon discover the difference between a mysterious lost love and an annoying dead body isn’t nearly as distinct as they thought.

Fun story

I enjoyed the characters and the story. Kept me interested and entertained the entire time.

Many characters

There are a lot of characters, and there isn’t a clear indication of who is speaking. The narrator could do more voices or accents or something to make it clear, as sometimes it feels like one person is speaking to himself. There’s no “fox said” or anything to indicate who we are listening to. The females sound the same. So when ten people are in a room and speaking you can’t tell that it’s ten different people. I’m sure the physical book would be better.

Couldn’t finish

While the premise sounded great, the story itself was a disappointment. For about four hours I’ve been listening to this group of characters sit around a table talking, and listening to the history of this love story between two characters that the author probably wants us to care a lot about. Unfortunately after listening for over 6 hours I don’t care about any of the characters, and the premise of the story has become lost in a bunch of jargon of shallow drama that happened a long time ago and has no basis in the current story. Not sure if the book will ever get back to the plot it mentioned having on the back cover, but I’m not sure I can stand listening to any more of it.

Interesting but Confusing.

I don’t think this book is made to be an audiobook. There’s so many characters and although the performance was great, it just got very confusing every now an then with THAT many characters talking all at once.

Hated the it had to end

I enjoyed this so much. This band of characters was the perfect mix of funny, sneaky and heroic. I wish I could do it all over again.

Good Story

I liked the story. I think my only issue was the dialogue between characters. I couldn’t tell who was who but eventually got the idea.

excellent performance by narrator

i didn't know what I was getting into but I can't hate on a good story. it was entertaining, sacrilegious, and woke. It wasn't at all what I expected and it was intriguing.

Great Concept

Loved the concept of this book so much! The narrator had a super dream voice and I adore him! Will definitely be getting more books from this author.

A thinker

I liked it, it’s for a very American Gods feel to me. Similar writing and very thought provoking.

Great story! Weird whiny female voice attempt

The story itself was a unique and great! My only qualm was the narrators version of female voices… breathy and whiny and honestly frustratingly hard to listen to. Male voices were fine, obviously.

Besides the above, I’d recommend the book for people who like a bit of unique fantasy/mystery stories.
