About this listen

It is 56 BC. As Fronto and his friends’ winter in Rome and Caesar in Illyricum, trouble is brewing in the north. The tribes of Armorica, driven to desperate action by the harsh rule of Crassus, raise their standards in defiance of the Roman eagle, causing a chain reaction that threatens everything the legions of Caesar have achieved.

Meanwhile, in Rome, the conspiracies against Caesar take an unexpected turn, plunging Fronto and his friends into a world of crime, violence and intrigue that threaten everything the legate cares about. In a year that takes the legions and their commanders to the Atlantic Ocean, the treacherous Pyrenees, and the seething underbelly of Rome, everything is about to change for Marcus Falerius Fronto.

Great historical fiction

The books of Marius Mules, is really one of the best series of historical fiction I I have read in a long time. It is not always as accurate, but it is witty, smart and the story lines are deep and layered. I love them

Real historical timeline with characters we know and some we don’t.

Interesting characters woven into the history you know. Mid 1st century BCE one of my favorite time frames. Key events brought to life from the view of characters you really care about. Which in turn brings these historical events alive and full of intrigue and excitement. This is the 3rd book in a 4 book series. I know I will listen to this series several times and enjoy them each time. Well done and great fun!

Can’t wait to read next installment

The continuing saga is fantastic. Character development of new players works and doesn’t takeaway from existing cast. Narrator is tops.

very good however....

British accent just don't do justice to hard charging Centurions and Legats.... still very good though.

Frontov Finds Love

another enjoyable chapter in the story of Caesar's legions and the irrepressible Legate Marcus Fronto. the dialogue and attitudes among the soldiers is reminiscent of the Masterpiece series I Claudius.
on to the next book that goes to Brittania.

Fronto keeps up the entertainment

Enjoyable as always. Onto book 4 and love the historical perspective. Completed the Dictator previously and that series was from Cicero’s historical lens.
