Acerca de esta escucha

In the epic clash of Greece and Persia, a hero is forged - a monumental novel from the author of the Tyrant series.

Arimnestos is a farm boy when war breaks out between the citizens of his native Plataea and their overbearing neighbours, Thebes. Standing in the battle line for the first time, alongside his father and brother, he shares in a famous and unlikely victory. But after being knocked unconscious in the melee, he awakes not a hero but a slave.

Betrayed by his jealous and cowardly cousin, the freedom he fought for has now vanished, and he becomes the property of a rich citizen. So begins an epic journey out of slavery that takes the young Arimnestos through a world poised on the brink of an epic confrontation, as the emerging civilisation of the Greeks starts to flex its muscles against the established empire of the Persians.

As he tries to make his fortune and revenge himself on the man who disinherited him, Arimnestos discovers that he has a talent that pays well in this new, violent world - for like his hero, Achilles, he is 'a killer of men'.

Good but not great

I got this book because it was recommended for people who liked Bernard Cornwell books. While I can see why it was recommended I felt like the story was not written as well as Cornwell and left me wanting better battle descriptions. Don’t get me wrong, the story was good, just not great. The narrator was annoying at first but ended up being acceptable. Again, good not great.

Well damn

I was not sure if I would like this book because I am more of a scfi/fantasy kind of guy but I loved it. I have to say that the writing was just amazing and with the narrator this book became an awesome experience that I will remember.

Nerds Only

Fantastic ancient historical fiction. This was the first book I've tried by Christian Cameron, though he comes highly recommended by other HF writers (with good reason). Highly and unforgivingly immersive, if you're new to the classical era of Greece and Anatolia, I'd recommend diving into some Herodotus and Plutarch before you choose to stand in the storm of bronze with Arimnestos. There's just as much cultural and political content as there is violence. BIG shoutout to the fact that this story has developed, three dimensional female characrers, which is a rarity in this genre. I am finishing this series for sure!

Excellent

When I finish a series by Christian Cameron, I feel as if I am saying goodbye to friends and it’s bittersweet. Beginning another series by Mr Cameron, I always feel like this series won’t compare to the last I’ve read. I’m even slow to warm to characters due to my own hesitance, but every time, I’m hooked within a few chapters. Excellent.

A fascinating story!

Riveting detail, with depth. love, hate, revenge and success! My very favorite author of all time! I love Christan's style, you've ruined me for every other author!

Greek Uhtred

If you're a fan of Bernard Cornwell's series' as well as a fan of Hellenic history then this is the series for you. In a similar fashion as Cornwell, the main character's story parallels the major event and figures of the era, in this case the beginning of the Persian Wars and the Ionian revolt. A must for any fan of historical fiction. The narrator is iffy at first but ultimately fits the mold perfectly.

excellent, history with a great story

The names for me are hard to follow. so keep track of them at the beginning of the book. The story is exceptional and kept me up until 2:00 a.m..
The voice acting is also very good transitioning from the old to the young.
one of the best books I've listened to this year and I highly recommend it I'm looking for the next one now :-)

A MASTERPIECE!

Not going to say much or spoil anything. I will simply say that Mr. Cameron has an amazing grasp for Ancient Historical Fiction that keeps you riveted to the story and transports you to that ear of heroes, glory and horror. Peter Noble was the perfect choice for narrator and his performance was flawless!

Equal to Saxon Tales

Have now finished all 6 in the series and loved it. Like discovering another Uhtred-like protagonist. Mature, compelling, and well-researched writing. Excellent narration. A broad, epic story full of heroes from history. Having little background in the geography of ancient Greece, I had to refer many many times to maps found online to orient myself to events of the story.

Slow Start But Action Packed

It took a while to get used to the first person narrative but the story line and narrator were excellent. Lots of action just like the title suggests.
