New Edition, with new introduction!

Murray N. Rothbard's great treatise Man, Economy, and State and its complementary text, Power and Market, are here combined into a single audiobook edition as they were written to be. It provides a sweeping presentation of Austrian economic theory, a reconstruction of many aspects of that theory, a rigorous criticism of alternative schools, and an inspiring look at a science of liberty that concerns nearly everything and should concern everyone.

The Mises Institute's new edition of Man Economy, and State, united with its formerly sundered companion volume, Power and Market, is a landmark in the history of the institute. It takes this book out of the category of underground classic and raises it up to its proper status as one of the great economic treatises of all time, a book that is essential for anyone seeking a robust economic education.

The captivating new introduction by Professor Joseph Salerno frames up the Rothbardian contribution in a completely new way and reassesses the place of this book in the history of economic thought. In Salerno's view, Rothbard was not attempting to write a distinctively "Austrian" book but rather a comprehensive treatise on economics that eschewed the Keynesian and positivist corruptions. This is what accounts for its extraordinarily logical structure and depth. That it would later be called Austrian is only due to the long-lasting nature of the corruptions of economics that Rothbard tried to correct.

For years the Mises Institute has kept it in print and sold thousands of copies in a nice paperback version. Then we decided to take a big step and put out an edition worthy of this great treatise. It is the Scholar's Edition of Man, Economy, and State - an edition that immediately became definitive and used throughout the world. The index is huge and comprehensive.

Helps clarify the causal effects of government policy in economics. Clear, logical and comprehensive. Rothbard's analysis helps to understand the current social and exonomic climate.

Essential. Explains the real cost of governments

WOW! There is no reason to believe any other economist's or Statist's theories after this!

#1 after H u man Action!

I really wanted to learn Rothbard's approach to economics, so I stuck with it, but the narrator has a low grating voice like an old lawn mower. its doubly hard to listen to because Murray repeatedly uses long lists of comparative values, mostly barrels of fish for horses, instead of explaining the idea with real life data.

Terrible narrator!

Super clear, well documented and beautifully argued, this book should lay socialism in the grave for good, if only leftists could read!

Amazing book!

The first half or so is slower but it picks up and is very good.

Best economics book I've read.

In this epic treatise on economics, Rothbard begins at the basics with Crusoe Economics, and continues to extrapolate from there, in true Austrian fashion. I need to listen to it again as it is so much information to take in!

Rothbard is Brilliant

There are some overlaps between the end of the first book and the second, but not enough to skip whole sections. The narrator is very good and clear up to 3x.

Biased, but well-explored.

This is a must read for anyone claiming to love liberty. I bought the paper book and a study guide to go with this.

Wonderfully enlightening

The most important work in economics

Rothbard was already one of my favorite thinkers, but this magnum opus sealed the deal. His rationale and communication of the principles of liberty and spontaneous order are unparalleled. Note: The material becomes quite advanced. For the reader who is new to libertarian theory, I would recommend Rothbard's shorter book, "For a New Liberty." There is much overlap between the two from a sociological and ethical standpoint.

Mindblowing
