About this listen

Meghan can't afford to take a break.

She's gotten food and shelter for her family. Her oldest is turning into a wizard, her middle boy is some kind of self-healing monkey, and her youngest is accumulating a small army of pets. That's a bit much to roll with, but when monsters are appearing on the lawn, it's probably for the best.

What worries her is the mysterious—and dangerous—"challenge" she knows is fast approaching, and she's got to get her kids and community ready to face it. Some neighbors are ready and willing to pitch in, but others? They might end up being a bigger problem than the alien monsters.

Great series

One of my favorite series. I really enjoy what Erin is doing and how I could picture my kids doing some of the same things if they were in an apocalypse

if you're a nerdy parent read this series!

the way the characters are portrayed really make you relate to them and the children and makes you wonder if you would do the same intheir situations. I feel like these are my kids and I got so concerned about the outcome! I am very much looking forward to what happens next.

Great LitRPG hook for parents or anyone.

I read lots of LitRPG and the like and this is one of the more unique settings and perspectives that I really enjoyed.

best written kids

If you have kids, every conversation is one you've had...or the one you should've had when you yelled at your kid for pulling down the ceiling fan with his new monkey tail.

Good characterizations

Like the story, love the characters, and hate that you need 15 words for the review

Nicely paced, nicely progressed, looking forward to the next one.

I was very pleased with book 1 and now book 2 I’ve completed both in a 3 day window. I really like the pacing. As a parent myself this has created a new thought process for fun of the what if this happened type scenario. I’ve really appreciated how thought out this is especially for incorporating young children. There are a decent amount of human error type mistakes that are very expected and yeah they aren’t good but they are at least realistic considering. Not an OP MC and not just blessed with gift after gift. This grind is real the learning is what I’d expect to be proper. Enjoy

What a fantastic book!

Seriously what a fantastic book! I just love it when the book lives up to your expectations and that's zactly what the second book is suppose to do, boost the signal. So the reader is all geared up for the next in the series. And I'm definitely ready! I've already downloaded the third book.
But before we get into my quick synapses... let me tell you about Vince 'cause I'm sure you'all've been wonderin about him! You seriously need to go to the author's website and read the free novella Engineer's Odyssey https://erinampersand.com/ you'll be glad did!
So Megan has been working super hard to get all three of her young children levels and with the help of her youngest's, turtle plushy (AI) even Cassie is leveling and even stronger than most adults! But sometimes a Mom can't control everything especially when her kids are involved. So yeah you'll need to definitely grab this action-driven audiobook.

Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:

Sometimes, when your kid tells you with awe in their voice that you have a big butt, all you can say is "Thanks."

"For a wet pile of meat and bacteria, you have surprisingly good insights sometimes."

Can’t wait for the next one!

I started this series while looking for my next read/listen. I was hooked within the first chapter of the first book-I’ve always wondered how one handles being a parent during an apocalypse and it’s really easy to identify with Megan, and company, navigating her new environment. LCW does a fantastic job bringing the story to life.

Sometimes idiots get in the way

This was an interesting book. I am not sure what I like better the fight with the gang or the kids' trial at the end. I love that it is from the mother's POV. It is not easy being a parent. I look forward to seeing what happened next. I like the Pointe part after the story, I just wish it was in the audio, too.
