About this listen

As the zombie epidemic wanes, one community hopes to expand—but a menacing rival group will do anything to stop them—in this post-apocalyptic horror series.

On the isle of Big Tancook, Collie Jones is making plans. She informs her fellow islanders that it’s time to resume her original mission: to find other survivors of the apocalypse, screen them, and bring them back with her. Every person who joins them is another valuable addition to their skill and gene pool.

But first, Collie must return to the place from whence she originally came and secure the elaborate government bunker known as Whitecap as well as its vast store of munitions. Assembling a team that includes mountain man Gus Berry, Collie returns to the mainland—and confronts a new enemy.

It seems a rival group is also determined to locate survivors, intending to build an empire. And they don’t like competition . . .

decent book in series..castrated main character.

book was ok, not as good as first 4 books..main character went from bad ass mother F'r in previous books, to suddenly dumb, scared, clumsy, whoosie..enough of the super bad ass, girls that can kick any mans ass, can operate any weapons platform, know everything about everything, its getting monotonous and annoying. it makes a already high fiction book and makes it super fiction. woman are not men, we are different physically.these super tough, know it all woman are 1 in a million, but yet we are spoon fed the opposite.

Love Gus

I really missed spending time with Gus! So glad this series has been continued. Bray gives a great performance as usual. I felt that Gus was a little more passive in this story than we’ve ever seen before but overall, the story was great. Nice to have some new characters thrown into the mix. This guy deserves to catch a break. Gus is the guy I love to root for. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Enjoy!

May we have some more, please?

I love the Mountain Man series of books, as well as Breeds; the respective pairings with R.C. and Sean as narrators are magic. I do have to say, though, I'm not nuts about Gus' obsession with his nuts - not a super attractive trait... I hadn't realized that another book had been added to the series, so finding it was a happy surprise. I discovered and purchased it the same day that I heard people were stockpiling TP because of COVID-19. A cashier at my local grocery store told me a fellow had purchased $500 worth in a single transaction. It crossed my mind that he must be related to Gus. It's wonderful to be able to escape the real world through your entertaining stories - thank you! I hope there are many more to come.

KCB and RCB have done it again

Blackmore writes so vividly and well that the story just flies by. RC Bray's masterful narration makes this series a movie in your head you'll never forget.

I'd love to delve into all the little things about the plot that absolutely floored me but I'd hate to spoil the ride for the next person.

Definitely don't skip Make Me King. In fact, this whole series is outstanding. Listen to the whole thing multiple times over, just to be sure your night terrors are well informed ;)

King of this series.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. Gus stares death in the face yet again. it had me taking pauses just to regain my composure. A heart pounding journey from beginning to end.

Love this series. Very glad that Keith decided to continue it. I look forward to listening to the rest of the series and as always R.C. brings home the performance.

an excellent continuation

I love the original 3 books in this series, and all the follow-ups so far have not disappointed either. I wasn't really sure how far they were able to take the story but they're setting up the next book or two with this one and I'm really looking forward to the story to be potentially told afterwards. The introduction of Kali in the last book really help ground Gus in a relatable way for me, plus she's an all-around equalizing badass. overall I would definitely recommend this after reading the first few books in the series. It's well-written, paste well and really whets the appetite for post-apocalyptic zombie stories for me.
