About this listen

The wild magic is taking its toll on the land, and even Vanyel, the most powerful Herald-Mage to ever walk the world, is almost at the end of his strength. But when his Companion, Yfandes, receives a call for help from neighboring Lineas, both Herald-Mage and Companion are drawn into a holocaust of dark magic that could be the end of them both.

Outstanding audiobook!!

I read The Last Herald Mage Trilogy in the 1990s; it was a gateway to the beautiful, fanciful, and immersive world of Mercedes Lackey. I recently had the privilege of listening to Gregory St. John narrate the outstanding, unabridged recordings of Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, and Magic's Price. His excellent narration adds an additional dimension to the already multi-faceted universe of Herald Vanyel in Valdemar. I cannot recommend this series highly enough!

the narration suck!!!

i love the story, which is why i have born with the atrocious narration.
The narrator is chopping the story to pieces in some places, creating illogical bridges between unrelated paragraphs.
and his pronounciation of Valdemaran names, nouns and words for animals is unbelievably horrid. especially since there are pronounciation guides in all Valdemar books.
this narrator should be fired and never be allowed to narrate another book!

Wonderful Series

This is the very first series I read by Mercedes Lackey when they first came out. It was great then and like returning to visit with an old friend now.

Gregory St. John brings the story to life. I look forward to more books narrated by him.

Excellent narration

Excellent narration - the narrator distinguishes the voices of different characters wonderfully - there’s subtle but noticeable changes for each character that sound natural and not over done (especially regarding the female characters - no awkward falsettos!). The story of course of fabulous - you get a couple moments to catch your breath between the heartbreaking end of the first book and the drama that is yet to come in the third but overall is still a gripping story where we get to see what a grown up Herald-Mage Vanyel is like!
