Acerca de esta escucha

From the New York Times bestselling author Mercedes Lackey comes contemporary fantasy Sacred Ground.

Jennifer Talldeer is Osage and Cherokee, granddaughter of a powerful Medicine Man. She walks a difficult path: contrary to tribal custom, she is learning a warrior's magics. A freelance private investigator, Jennifer tracks down stolen Native American artifacts.

The construction of a new shopping mall uncovers fragments of human bone, revealing possible desecration of an ancient burial ground. Meanwhile, the sabotage of construction equipment at the site implicates many activists—particularly Jennifer's old flame, who is more attractive and dangerous than ever. Worst of all, the grave of Jennifer's legendary Medicine Man ancestor has been destroyed, his tools of power scattered, and a great evil freed to walk the land.

Jennifer must make peace with the many factions and solve the mystery of her ancestor's grave before the world falls into oblivion.

A New, and yet old, story

Utilizing the best of the traditional stories of Cherokee and Osage, the author weaves a mystical tale, that traditional police work can only shrug and shake their heads.

Story starts slow, but improves to keep your interest. All together I thought it was a very good story.

Loved this story

I have read other Mercedes Lackey books and enjoyed them. This book is no exception. I loved the story, the characters and the world building. My only quibble was that this book wasn't the first in a long series, which I would have enjoyed.

Good book

The story starts a little slow as it builds the world and characters but the final sequence was action packed. Definitely worth a listen.

Three genres combined into one outstanding book

This highly entertaining audiobook is an amazing blend of thriller, mystery, and fantasy, and includes a dash of romance. Incredibly entertaining and oh, so enjoyable. I can't believe this is only the 5th of Ms. Lackey's 134 available Audible fantasy books that I have listened to. I can't wait to start another. Now, which to choose?
Ms. Rich is a fairly good narrator with crisp diction, and embodies each character with appropriate emotion, forcefulness, and verve. She does have some inconsistency of each character's voice throughout the book, does not have adequate differentiation between characters, and portrays male voices less well. However, I see that she has been narrating Audible books for only 2 years. I believe that she, with more experience, will become one of the best.

I just couldn't get past the mispronunciation of the Subaru Brat. Absolutely love the story though.

Stereotypes are made to be broken

I’ve loved this book for more than two decades. I’ve been reading Mercedes Lackey’s books since the first one, Arrows of the Queen, which I came across in my college’s bookstore. I fell in love with Sacred Ground from the first page and I’ve reread it many times. The audiobook meets my expectations and I’m sure I’ll listen to it many times as well.
Jennifer Talldeer and her grandfather, Moon Crow, are such entertaining characters along with a pretty much perfect villain in the form of a misogynistic white man, who underestimates who he is up against.

Disappointed in the naration.

Good story, consistent for Mercedes Lackey. Would be a good begining for a series. Performance by Ms Rich was rushed and without a soul. It sounded like someone who was not at all vested in the material and just wanted to get through it as fast as possible. I should have gotten the book and read it myself. Not at all up to the standards of audiobooks of the last several years.

One of My Favorite Books by Mercedes Lackey

I have enjoyed reading this book many times over the past twenty years, so was quite excited when I saw that it was finally available on Audible. Ms. Lackey is my favorite fantasy author. The stolen artifacts and subsequent fraud are an interesting storyline. Native American culture seems well respected in this novel and Jennifer is a lovely protagonist.

Now about the narration: I'm not usually terribly picky about how my story is read to me, but I was incredibly distracted during the whole book by mispronunciations and words being flipped. For instance, Huey Long was pronounced, "H-way", and fate worse than death turned into, "a death worse than fate". Besides this and pauses in odd places, her tone and pacing were good, which saved my performance rating.

Overall, I love this story and distractions aside, this is a wonderful book that I recommend you read or hear.
