About this listen

Dying the first time sucked. Matt's trying to avoid a repeat performance.

For Matt, joining Earth's last line of defense was exactly the purpose he needed. Saving the world could be fun—if you don’t mind a little soul-crushing responsibility.

But being killed and reincarnated into the battlefield chaos of a 4x game world wasn't what he had in mind. The world map is made out of hexagrams, the units are semi-sentient and his opponents have a head start. As if that wasn't enough, there's no instruction manual for this nightmare.

Now, Matt’s going to have to figure out how to rule a Magic Kingdom at War… or face annihilation along with the world he once knew.

Still, it's better than his office cubicle.

Magic Kingdom at War is a tactical, base-building, crunchy LitRPG novella series by Tao Wong, bestselling author of the System Apocalypse, A Thousand Li, Climbing the Ranks, the Hidden Universe and Adventures on Brad series. This edition contains the first four volumes of Magic Kingdom at War.

Instead of a powerful character becoming overpowered, a somewhat uninformed normal guy put in strategic command of a kingdom in a command/conquer situation. Narrator did a good job in distinguishing the character voices from each other, and the pace of the story kept engagement high. Overall, a fun romp in a magic kingdom.

Be aware, this is more a collection of novellas than a typical 4- book series, so the entire set will go by quickly! The solution? Read more Tao Wong books :)

normally like the author but this felt as though it was written for a very young audience. The books are very short with lots of fluff and repetitive recaps.

short, repetitive

This was like reading about someone playing a game of Civilization 6. It was pretty dull overall.
