A Great Piece of Americana

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved this book. It's a great story of a wonderful family and a piece of American immigrant history. If you, like me, come from a family of immigrants, you'll appreciate the back story, even if your family came from a different place.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Every character in the book was genuine. I really didn't have a favorite. I think I'd love them all if I met them in person.

What does Bill Lord bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bill Lord brought the Glosser family right into my living room, sat down with them, and told me their story. I could almost smell the roasting cashews and peanuts! I wish Glosser's Department Store was in MY town growing up.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very last chapter of the book, the last customer, was beautiful. The author's ability to paint a picture with words, and the narrator's treatment of the passage was poignant and engaging.

More of a History Book Than Story Book

What did you like best about Long Live Glosser's? What did you like least?

From the beginning of the book it was really interesting to hear about the life of this department store. While I'm not familiar with it prior to this listen, I just imagined it as one of the other landmark department stores.

As I listened this was more of a anthology than a story and, for me, it began to drag on about halfway through.

This would definitely be an excellent and interesting listen if you had grown up with or are familiar with this the store or the family.

Bill Lord does a really good job narrating. I don't know if I would have stayed interested as long as I did had it not been for him.

Again, don't let my review sway you one way or the other. I received a copy of this book in exchange for this review.
