Bruuuuuuutal voice acting

Fantastic book marred by absolutely brutal voice “acting”, none of which lined up with the person’s actual voice at all. Rough listen.

A tough listen

This had the potential to be an incredible deep dive into the behind-the-scenes story of one of the most iconic music festivals of all time. Unfortunately, the audiobook falls flat in its execution. The structure is a jumbled mess — a patchwork of quotes pieced together in an attempt to form a cohesive narrative. While I understand that it would have been impossible to get all the original artists and insiders to read their own words, the voice actors used to fill those roles make the listening experience even more disjointed and, frankly, hard to endure.

The premise was strong, and the book had good intentions, but the end result is chaotic and confusing rather than insightful or engaging. I really wanted to like this, but I’d recommend skipping the audiobook version. Maybe the print edition would be easier to follow, but this audio format does the story no favors.
