About this listen

How to live with someone you care about who is depressed

Cindy Help, the author has helped people all over the world lean how to handle the difficulties associated with interacting with depressed people. The life-skills you need for coping with a depressed friend, spouse, co-worker, family member, boyfriend, girlfriend, sibling, or child are contained within this audiobook.

The wisdom in this book will show you exactly how to live with someone who is suffering with chronic or situational depression.

From the author on dealing with a depressed person:

When a family member, spouse, or friend suffers from depression, they need all the love and support they can get from you. Your care, encouragement, support, and understanding all play a vital role in their recovery. While this is true, it isn't a walk in the park. Living with a depressed person can be very difficult for everyone involved.

If you live with a depressed person and share a fair amount of responsibility in looking after that person day in and day out, it's easy to forget yourself and to neglect your own needs. If this keeps up, you may eventually find yourself burnt out or on the brink of wearing yourself down. Whether you are living with or taking care of a depressed person by your own conscious choice or not is not the issue. What is important is doing your best to deal with it and look after the depressed person while nonetheless knowing how to take care of yourself at the same time. All throughout this ordeal, you must strive to remember that you still matter. Most resources out there focus solely on the depressed person. It's about time someone focused on you.

Very very basic info

This book contains commonly known things about depression. While it contains accurate information it is elementary level content

Don't judge, just help!

If you could sum up Living with a Depressed Person in three words, what would they be?

Highly helpful tips

The part about making sure you take care of yourself even if you are trying to help someone that is depressed.

Have you listened to any of JC Anonymous’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to other titles, this one is just as good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A very helpful book on a difficult topic

Any additional comments?

There are many books dealing with depression, but this takes a step back and talks to those people who have to live with a depressed person, which can be just as terrible as suffering from depression yourself.

There are two angles that the book looks at depression from. There are tips and advice on understanding the illness, and how you can best help that person. but it also makes a big point of emphasising the fact that you need to look after yourself too. There is no wrong in being a little selfish when you're living with someone who is making your life tough on a daily basis.

I think it's so important to be reminded that it is not all about the person with the illness, your life is of value too and you need to be fit, well and in good spirits to best help the person with depression.

An interesting listen that will certainly be of help to some people.

Waist of a credit

This was not helpful and very short. It is a lot of what people already know about if you live with a depressed person.

Good perspective: horrible narrator

The ideas and content of this e-book are very helpful, as a person who lives with a depressed loved one. This book has given me quick and easy concepts to keep in mind, when interacting with my loved one on a daily basis, while tending to my own emotional needs. My only criticism is the narrator. He honestly reads like someone in elementary school, with emphasis and breaks in all the wrong places, which make it difficult to follow at certain points. It's like he's reading words aloud just for the sake of doing it and not understanding what he's reading. The introduction is ok, but it gets worse. I've heard this narrator before, and he was more or less the same, but notedly more "choppy" in this book.

Not what I expected

This book is quite short and even though the material is good the delivery was rough. There were several times I had to replay due to a pause by the reader that the information didn't really make sense to me.

Good information, bad audio

Reassuring information, short and to the point. The narration is terrible and robotic but if you can get past that worth the 27 mins to listen to.

Helping others

Where does Living with a Depressed Person rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Its near the top. I a lot of people I know live with depressed people, so it gives some insight and tools to help them out.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There are no characters, just the narrator and you.

Which scene was your favorite?

No scenes, just a nice information packed audio book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry a little because I was once the depressed person people had to live with. To know what everyone else was going through made me sad.

A good reminder

Sometimes you just need a quick reminder of how to help your loved one. Now, the narration is kind of weird, to be honest, but the content -- which is what I was really needing when I downloaded -- was clear and helpful. It is a good source for when I'm feeling short-fused, and a reminder of what to do and what not to do, what not to say....and how to support. It's a good thing to pop on the way home so you have a strong arsenal.
thank you.
