Acerca de esta escucha

From renowned physicist and New York Times best-selling author Brian Greene comes the remarkable human quest to grasp how the universe came to be.

A Russian dissident, a Jesuit priest, and an American mule skinner are but a few of the bold visionaries who crafted the scientific story of cosmic origins. The collective insights of these and numerous creative thinkers advanced human understanding from mythology to mathematics, yielding falsifiable alternatives to ancient folklore and campfire tales.

Listening to the Big Bang tells the dramatic human story—filled with colorful characters, unsung catalysts, and glorified heroes—which made the Big Bang the leading cosmological theory.

But deep questions remain. Was the big bang a one-time event or might there be series of bangs? What sparked the big bang? Why is there anything at all? Decades of astronomical evidence notwithstanding, only by listening for the sounds of creation will scientists be equipped to extol, or extend, or expel our most refined story for how the universe began.

With deep insight, a light touch, and an artful sense of narrative, Brian Greene takes us all to the very edge of understanding.

Held my interest throughout

The level of depth into the various topics was perfect. Interspersing the ideas with the history and scientific drama that surrounded them made for a very interesting listen.

Love the concise historical review of discoveries that changed science forever and made me think about how science has been done in the past and today.

very inormative

Great narration, and a lot of cosmological details. Short is good too. There is no book for the audio. But narration is perfect for replacement.

Our Physical World Anno 2025

This is a most remarkable presentation. With clarity and insight Brian Greene takes us on a tour de force in a subject riddled with theories and heavy mathematics but without, I repeat and mark my words, WITHOUT throwing formulae’s and strange words at the reader.

The ease with which Brian Greene handles this subject which has no absolutes but a rich fauna of various theories is truly impressive. I say this as one who graduated in applied physics way back in 1973 and try to keep up in an ever expanding knowledge about our physical world.

The story (of the world we live in) as written and narrated by Brian Greene is for all and everyone with no particular requirement on the reader/listener. Enjoy!

Might be the best Audible book EVER

I usually only write restaurant reviews; almost always places I really enjoy, but in this case i couldn’t help myself from gushing about this book. I’ve listened to it twice already in the first week I’ve owned it. I’ve always had an interest in the universe and trying to wrap my head around quantum physics. I am NOT gifted mathematically, as I’m a former musician and high tech marketer. This book is as good as it gets. Brian is an amazing presenter, and his approach to ‘reading’ his script seems likes he’s simply having a conversation with you. Two things stand out to me about the book. 1. He threads the entire book with human storylines, the star scientists of the show through history. He’s not bashful about shining a light on those that laid importance groundwork in making discoveries, but never received the recognition they likely deserved. With his own credentials and his ability to make something very complicated, easy to understand he reaches the everyday reader without getting bogged down in equations. 2. His engaging personality comes shining through the audio book and helps to communicate some of the most electrifying moments in cosmology’s history. One final note, I happened to sit next to Brian on a flight to NYC as he was working on manuscript for a PBS special. I was too nervous to engage except to say I was a fan. That was probably 20 years ago…so, I’m probably a bit biased! I sure hope this book becomes a great COSMOS special. ENJOY!
