About this listen

Audio bonus! Includes exclusive conversations with the authors!

From an acclaimed Harvard professor and one of Time’s most influential people, this paradigm-shifting audiobook shows how almost everything we think we know about aging is wrong, offers a front-row seat to the amazing global effort to slow, stop, and reverse aging, and calls listeners to consider a future where aging can be treated.

For decades, experts have believed that we are at the mercy of our genes and that natural damage to our genes - the kind that inevitably happens as we get older - makes us become sick and grow old.

But what if everything you think you know about aging is wrong? What if aging is a disease - and that disease is treatable?

In Lifespan, one of the world’s foremost experts on aging and genetics reveals a groundbreaking new theory that will forever change the way we think about why we age and what we can do about it. Aging isn’t immutable; we can have far more control over it than we realize. This eye-opening and provocative work takes us to the front lines of research that is pushing the boundaries on our perceived scientific limitations, revealing incredible breakthroughs - many from Dr. David Sinclair’s own lab - that demonstrate how we can slow down, or even reverse, the genetic clock. The key is activating newly discovered vitality genes - the decedents of an ancient survival circuit that is both the cause of aging and the key to reversing it. Dr. Sinclair shares the emerging technologies and simple lifestyle changes - such as intermittent fasting, cold exposure, and exercising with the right intensity - that have been shown to help lead to longer lives.

Lifespan provides a road map for taking charge of our own health destiny and a bold new vision for the future when humankind is able to live to be 100 years young.

I would’ve given this five stars if not for the political inclusion. Not appropriate and reduces the validity of the genius work behind what the research presented.

Politics Out Please

too political for my blood. looking for a more scientific approach. Started good, but soon went anti Trump.

got political

Science was interesting. Ethics were dubious and myopic. Had the author focused on the scientific breakthroughs on the horizon, and left the reader to draw his/her own conclusions rather than force-feeding his views on the ethical implications involved, would have been a great book. Just got really annoying for most of the second half of the book.

Myopic

A fascinating book describing the current knowledge base of research to extend the human lifespan. A technical book that is surprisingly easy for the interested lay person to read; full of “off the shelf” things that the average person can do to increase their quality of life and extend their lifespan.
The last 1/4 in the book is mostly pontification on how to change the world.

The science part was fascinating, then he goes off into anecdotal evidence that sound a bit like optimistic stories. I would have been happy with that being it, but then he jumps off the proverbial political cliff and it kills what would have been a wonderful 5 star, science based book.

First half was 5 stars, then...

This is such an exciting book! You just have to read it. There is so much to grasp. Even so, it is presented in a manner that even those without a science or biological background can easily comprehend. Honest!

This Should be Required Reading!

The book is amazing when he's talking about the ground breaking research from his lab. Wow, I learned a lot! But the Section 3 got into his opinions about the implications. They might be correct, but he's no expert in this area. I found myself wishing the book had ended hours earlier.

Exceptional until it's Not

I expected it to be more scientifically informative and less story telling. Was interesting to listen anyway, Guess easier for general public. I felt that some scientific details were skipped
