About this listen

The classic Michael Lewis book that defined an era of greed, gluttony, and outrageous fortune, available for the first time unabridged and read by the author.

In 1986, before Michael Lewis became the best-selling author of The Big Short, Moneyball, and Flash Boys, he landed a job at Salomon Brothers, one of Wall Street’s premier investment firms.

During the next three years, Lewis rose from callow trainee to New York- and London-based bond salesman, raking in millions for the firm and cashing in on a modern-day gold rush. Liar’s Poker is the culmination of those heady, frenzied years - a behind-the-scenes look at a unique and turbulent time in American business. This new audio edition, produced by the same team that produces his number one podcast Against the Rules, is unabridged, read by the author, and features archival news clips from the era, original scoring and sound effects, as well as a bonus episode from the companion podcast.

From the frat-boy camaraderie of the 41st-floor trading room to the killer instinct that made ambitious young men gamble everything on a high-stakes game of bluffing and deception, Liar’s Poker is both “the funniest book on Wall Street I’ve ever read” (Tom Wolfe) and the launchpad for Michael Lewis’ storied career.

Excellent book

A book that can help us to learn about the history and culture of Wall Street in the 1980s.

Michael, the angel

Luck happens a couple of times. This guy is a messenger. Being in the right place at the right time is an understatement. We are just lucky that he is a writer.

Absolutely Phenomenal!

This was engrossing, informative, and much more entertaining than I expected. Michael Lewis’s narration is also superb!

Entertaining, sometimes a bit confusing

What can I say, I like Michael Lewis‘ writing. Some of the internal politics inside of Solomon Brothers were hard to follow, though.

Excellent story that is well told!

Excellent story well told that holds an eerie foreshadowing of the real estate collapse of 2008.

Great story! Love hearing Author read!

In thought this was a great read. This book was a required reading for an advanced Finance Course in College. I actually dropped the class, and read the book 6 years later. Had I read it prior to starting the class I would have been more motivated to continue down the path of Finance as a career choice.

Nothing better than telling a personal story

Loved the storytelling, the characters, and the explanations from the world of finance. Really liked that the author was also the narrator.

More interesting than I thought it would be

It is amazing how many people didn't really know what they were doing but made lots of money anyway. Very easy to listen to, very entetaining.

Still awesome after all these years

Must be my 4th read and first on audiobook. I love every minute of it.
Truly an extraordinarily well written story that stood the test of time and is as relevant now as when it came out.
LOVE IT
