Acerca de esta escucha

Moneyball reveals a quest for something as elusive as the Holy Grail, something that money apparently can't buy: the secret of success in baseball. The logical places to look would be the giant offices of Major League teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

In a narrative full of fabulous characters and brilliant excursions into the unexpected, Lewis shows us how and why the new baseball knowledge works. He also sets up a sly and hilarious morality tale: Big Money, like Goliath, is always supposed to win.... How can we not cheer for David?

Ask any baseball fan and they'll tell you: some of their favorite sounds can only be heard at the ballpark—the smooth, satisfying pop of a catcher’s glove as a pitch hits its mark; the crack of a bat as it tears into a fastball, explosive and hopeful, drawing the crowd to their feet. Our list, a roundup of outstanding baseball audiobooks, offers a glimmer of that same ballpark magic with just a few of the greatest stories from our national pastime.

Home Run!

What a fantastic story. The ability to recognize misunderstood reality beyond the vale of conventional wisdom - like on base percentage - is one of the most important and undervalued intellectual skills. The courage to act on such perception is just as valuable and even more rare. Thanks, Michale Lewis, for putting the genius of Billy Beane and the early sabermetricians in the limelight they deserve!

Loved this book, I was hooked on it right from the beginning, and I was sad when it ended because I wanted to keep following the story for another season!

Great story, which the film mostly encapsulated

What did you love best about Moneyball?

The story that expanded upon the major motion picture, allowing readers to truly connect with the players involved and their personal backgrounds, stories and idiosyncrasies. The singular best part for me was the chapter on the draft that took the readers inside the draft room to hear the process and how Billy Beane worked his opposing GMs.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Either Ron Washington or Scott Hatteberg

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s performance?

Over-annunciating and annoying. His continual annunciation of words such as pretty as "Pret-ty," any as "An-ny," and every as "Ev-very" repeatedly broke my concentration as I then focused on how much he was over-annunciating and therefore distracted my listening.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Well, seeing as it is already a film...

Any additional comments?

Way More Story Than the Movie

Captivating book and story. I saw the movie first and decided to listen to the book. It's so much better. It has way more detail on the baseball math and player stories. If you liked the movie, you will love the book.
