Good for Ultramarine fans

I am a big fan of Dan Abnett but this felt like word salad. too many non-important side stories and very verbose repetition.

To little about the Primarchs, too little about the Heresy. It starts well and ends pretty well but the subtle hints and connections to other HH novels are hard to follow unless you can memorize the previous novels and various GW codices and campaign books.

HH should be 40 stories, 18 pre-found story of each primarch with flashes to their legion. 18 stories during the crusades about the primarch and legion and 4 stories on Horuses fall and siege.

Not 40 books but 40 stories horever long that takes. Deliverance Lost for example was good but I wanted more on Corax before and during the crusade. Same for Guilliman.

The battle for Calth, as represented here, had too much about Mechanicum nobodies and scrap code.

There is a Mechanicum novel in this series which describes them well. I would rather have 5 more chapters of Guilliman flashbacks than bibaric love in the 31st millennium.

It is a must read for the series imo as it not only leads to the conclusion of the Heresy novels but also is info for the Primaris marines in 41st millennium stories.

For Ultramar!

finally, i get to hear of the ultramarines. good story though the way they distinguish time is hard tonfollow at times.

Took a little to get into but very good look into the ultramarines. Loved the wrap up.

super good, everything you want from a 40k book, big battles, massacres, sensual loving Admech, a dreadnought, the whole thing is a blast, oh also demons .

this is a great book. it's like poetry

the descriptions in this book are amazing, whole sections are written poetically, just a pleasure to listen to.

Not just great HH, a great novel

Know No Fear is in many was a masterpiece. A plot that moves like a thrill rides, descriptive and tight prose, and a great cast of heroes. The horus heresy has its ups and downs but for me this is the high water mark (ironic that for the Ultras the heresy begins here)

Best of the blue boys

I liked the overall story of the book. This is perfect if you want to know more about the rivalry between the 13th and 17th legions. This book made me really like ultramarines, as I am mainly use to 40k ultramarines.

Exhilarating

One of the best books of the Heresy. Nonstop action and great depiction of the boys in blue.

Outstandingly brutal

The Battle for Calph was everything I wanted and more. The amount of "Oh yeah, this is personal" in this novel is what I came for, and man did it get personal REALLY FAST

What can I say

It’s hard to make the Ultramarines interesting but this was a good story. Nothing as exciting as the rest of the Horus heresy but the boys in Cobalt blue are just Roman’s in space and just too serious.
