About this listen

New York Times Best Seller

MacKayla Lane faces the ultimate threat when war breaks out between the kingdoms of shadow and light, as the Fever series races to an explosive revelation.

From the moment MacKayla Lane arrived in Dublin to hunt her sister’s murderer, she’s had to fight one dangerous battle after the next: to survive, to secure power, to keep her city safe, to protect the people she loves.

The matter of who’s good and who’s evil can be decided by the answer to a single question: Whose side are you on?

Now, as High Queen of the Fae, Mac faces her greatest challenge yet: ruling the very race she was born to hunt and kill - a race that wants her dead yesterday, so they can put a pure-blooded Fae queen on the throne.

But challenges with her subjects are the least of her concerns when an ancient, deadly foe resurfaces, changing not only the rules of the game but the very game itself, initiating a catastrophic sequence of events that have devastating consequences and leave Mac questioning everything she’s ever learned and everyone she’s ever loved. Now begins an epic battle between Mortal and Fae, Seelie and Unseelie, would-be kings and would-be queens, with possession of the Unseelie King’s virtually unlimited power and the fate of humanity at stake.

From the exquisite, deadly gardens of the High Queen’s court, to long-forgotten truths found in the Sacred Grove of Creation, from the erotic bed of her enigmatic, powerful lover to the darkest, seductive reaches of the Unseelie kingdom, Mac’s final journey takes her places no human has been before, and only one human could possibly survive....

One who's willing to sacrifice everything.

Amazing as all her books! 5 stars for the story!

I was dying to know how Moning would wrap up this series although dreading seeing it end. This series has consumed me for years. I can’t explain just how much, but I don’t think I’ve ever felt a series so deep in my soul. Especially when it’s not my usual genre to read, and I find main characters almost as annoying as intriguing. Fascination with this series has led me to meet some fascinating people online and irl while having many, many discussions — a group of fans that can only be described as a tribe.

I just finished the audiobook and I’m satisfied. Of course not everything gets answered, but the key issues did. I’m happy that the story left some interesting possibilities open for Moning to write more in this ‘world’ with some new characters that I’d be happy to see again, if she so chooses. As always, the story takes your emotions on a rollercoaster ride that you don’t want to stop, even as you reach for a box of tissues.

As for the audio narration, it was ok. I did find some of Snow’s character voices a bit distracting that pulled me out of the story a few times (one that made me cringe). Cobb did better in the previous books, not sure why she changed fir this one. Also changed some pronunciations which pulled me out of the story and left me wondering what’s right. There were times it seemed both narrators were going a bit over the top on trying different accents inconsistently (didn’t flow naturally), but the story is so well written and compels the imagination enough that those hiccups in narration wham be pushed aside.

I Loved this book!

Karen is such an imaginative storyteller. She has created such an incredible world for us to get lost in and this book just continues to tell the story about the world she created along with the most amazing, powerful characters that you can't help but fall in love with immediately! This book introduced new characters and further developed previously introduced characters hearing them grow was amazing!

Karen's books are always so amazing that you can't read them just once or even twice. You will want the whole series in your library permanently so you can always return to it and listen whenever you want to get lost in her world which for me is atleast once a year!

The narrators were awesome for this book!

The story outshines the problem areas

In absolutely LOVE every KMM book, and I e read them all. Let me first say that I understand why KMM no longer uses Phil Gigante as narrator and I totally agree with her decision. However, I feel like she could have done better with the replacement. The story is so wonderful that you really forget about the narration until he tries to do an accent. Is it just me, or did Christian sound more like Dracula than a highlander? And the Nine didn’t have accents at all. I was really disappointed with the male narrator, but I’d still loved the story. Keep ‘em coming, Karen!

The Best Roller Coaster Ride of All Time

Karen Marie Moning is a master of weaving stories that pull you in, push you out only to pull you back in again with claws embedded deep. You will get angry, throw your book (or phone), reach for tissues, woohoo outloud and spontaneously combust as each event is revealed and comes to a close.

The Fever series has remained one of my favorites to date, not only because of the brilliant, in depth characters that Karen brings to life, but the many worlds that you get to experience. You don't merely read these stories. You become a part of them. Her characters feel like they become family and the dearest of friends and/or enemies.

In this final story that ends the arc for Mak & Barrons, not once was the outcome obvious. Each victory, or loss was not what you were lead to expect or feared from the start. Not even throughout the entire story was it given away until that final moment when you couldn't take much more of the direction you were headed in.

The story was full of surprises and WTF moments. Ones that you the reader has dreamt of or hoped for...some of us even prayed for what would happen for those characters that you loved and despised.

Karen Marie Moning is an exceptional storyteller. Her series are the only ones I have ever done a reread of, and the kind that you can never get tired of.

I look forward to reading what this brilliant author creates for us, her Moning Maniacs, next. My fingers are crossed that there will be more to come for those characters that we fell in love with alongside Mak & Barrons.

Thank You, Karen, for another epic tale. One that can never be forgotten

the narrators pronounced things differently

this story was different but it also was the closing of all of them so it is difficult to do and overall I really did like it. the narrators never listened to any of the previous books so some things sound so strange and jarring that it breaks immersion.

a bit strange

I had some trouble following the story and figuring out what was a dream/vision vs reality. I love these books though, and I'm sure I will listen to it many more times, but I was really confused at times

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

My fellow Moning Manics, KMM did right by us. I thought this was a beautifully written ending to an epic a** love story. I feel as though I’ve been through a gauntlet of emotions, from frustration, sadness, anger to happiness. Without giving any spoilers, just know that KMM gives the HEA we deserved.

Best male narrator since P.G.

Im rating this, for the most part on narration since it is an audible review. Boy I sure do wish Aiden Snow would have done Feverborn, Feversong and High voltage...He was absolutely awesome. As a devote of this series I longed for a deep, gravely, strong, sultry masculine voice for my beloved Barrons after Phil was gone and boy did Aiden deliver ! Bravo Aiden ! He also did well on Lor, Christian and even Shazam! I just cannot say enough about his voice. Im so so pleased!! Amanda did another fabulous job w the various female voices but I cringed each time she said "sheena-do". Egads she pronounced it right in prior books. As far as the story itself...one negative...not one single solitary sex scene. Not one. WHAT ? I didn't even get a wiff of sexual tension anywhere , nothing. Not even when Mac found out the faux Barrons was a good guy did she get her inner dialogue kink on and fantasize. Gee whiz im bummed, Karen usually has awesome sex scenes.
