About this listen
Kevin Crain was tired. He’d lived a long, healthy, productive life. Part of Tom Brokaw’s “Greatest Generation”, he’d done his part in World War II, and then again in Korea. He matured during the Cold War. He’d seen a couple of the atomic bomb tests firsthand and knew the destruction that would come with all-out war. By the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was a dedicated survivalist, before the term became known, well before it became a dirty word. Too old for Vietnam, Kevin used the power of his vote to make changes he thought needed for the US to continue as the leader of the free world.
He also kept an eye on the changing world situation. Several times he went on personal alert, ready to take his family into the extensive blast and fallout shelter in the backyard, just as he had when Kennedy backed Khrushchev down. The Cold War seemed to have ended without a nuclear exchange. But Kevin knew his history.

Story
Neal Grant watched silently as the cemetery workers buried his family. It was just him now, alone, something he’d never been before. First, his parents and siblings had passed and then his wife and three wonderful children. All of them were gone forever now - all dead at the same time because of a drunk driver and a foggy road. Little did Neal know that this was only the beginning of things to come. Soon he would realize that he had not only lost his family, but must also deal with a failing economy and a nuclear war.

Story
As daunting as the end of the world, nuclear fallout, World War III, civil unrest, economic collapse, solar flares, EMP attacks, and other apocalyptic scenarios may be, society has always been interested in the “what if?” of a post-apocalyptic world. Jerry’s stories provide interesting and practical perspectives of heroes and villains navigating post-apocalyptic scenarios including everything from Mad Max-type of events to more relevant plotlines that seem as if they could have come from the headlines of the modern world.

Story
Hank Smith was a prepper with a problem. He lived on a cul-de-sac, which was good. The bad part of it was it was on a hill, putting him in full view of the approach to the cul-de-sac and of most of his neighbors. Everyone in the neighborhood saw his large garden, his solar panels, his hand well, and the other items that indicated his ability to get by without much help from anyone else. Even though his neighbors thought Hank was a little nutty, they respected his right to live the way he wanted. However, when a world war breaks out, will they respect his right to his own property?

Story
Bethany and Gary had a lot in common. Both were independent-minded and self-sufficient. They were well aware of the dangers in the world and did what they could to be ready for anything, just in case. As the world spiraled out of control, it appeared their worst fears were coming true before their very eyes, just as they were beginning to fall in love and begin their lives together. When disaster struck, they would find their preparations and their love would be tested, but would their struggle to survive bring them closer together or tear them apart?

Story
Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Story
In the wake of the cataclysmic events that reshaped our world in 2020, a sense of relief washed over us all. By late 2023, I think we were ready to just live life again. I know I was. It was a time to make new friends and put the past to rest. Rayne and I hadn’t known each other long, but we were building a solid friendship, nothing more. It was our common interests that sent us on vacation together to my remote cabin. What we didn’t, couldn’t know, was that we were on a collision course with the end of the world as we knew it.

When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

My favorite author
Thank you Mr. Young for making your amazing books into audible books. I love every one of your books and have read them but eyesight is a real problem for me now so I’m so happy to see these on audible. I’ll buy every single one you put out on audible. Great post apocalyptic books that actually let the reader learn things to do and no overt profanity, excessive violence or zombies. I love listening how people prepare, what things they do to survive, and no one gives such great apocalyptic prepper stories and excellent narrators than Jerry D. Young.
