An excellent journey in church history

Around two characters of importance in each of the last 20 centuries of church history. Really enjoyed this walk through.

The Bible people and why we have it

I loved Sinclair‘s eloquent rendition of who made and gave us the Bible that we have. It was informative easy to read and delightfully inspiring. I love how at the end of each chapter he closes with a beautiful poem or song from a very famous person. This book very enriching to read I highly recommend it For those interested in Bible history.

Wonderful glimpse at 20 centuries of church history

I love Sinclair‘s writing and narration. This is a great “little” history book on notables from the Christian church. I like that it includes people that aren’t usually included in church histories.

Truly Inspiring!

A friend recommended this to me and I just finished it and have already purchased 4 book copies to give to people! It is written in such an understandable way to see how the history of Christianity veered throughout each century highlighting famous theologians and many I did not know, but contributed greatly to our understanding. It answered for me many questions I had been grappling with regarding Church Denominations and the New Testament. I cannot recommend it enough!

One of My Favorites

I first heard this book on the Ref Net app and was immediately captivated and had to find out what I was listening to so I could buy the book. I usually listen to several different books and podcasts at a time but I listened to this exclusively until I was finished. Ferguson is a brilliant man of God who’s sincerity translates clearly through his beautiful voice. This is the perfect bird’s eye view of church history, a fantastic primer for deeper study of that history, as well as an interesting way to view 20 centuries collectively for anyone regardless of their level of knowledge of church history. This book is often my go to at bedtime. Ferguson’s peaceful and hypnotic Scottish accent helps me relax and fall asleep.

Missing one page

I always have the hard copy of the books I listen to opened as I listen/read. This book was excellent!!!! But they missed the last page! Every chapter ends with a hymn from that century and they cut off the hymn by RC Sproul.

Worth a second listen

In addition to the careful summaries, I really appreciated the hymns and the each chapter

Great Summary of the Acts of God in history

A great summing up of the high points of the Church through 20 centuries. And done with the author's wonderful Scottish accent to highlight it. Quite amazing how so much could be so easily encapsulated, accompanied by quotes from contemporary authors as well. Highly recommended!

Phenomenal and So Encouraging

A truly wonderful book. It is an amazing overview of church history. In Hebrews 11 fashion, it high lights the great Christians throughout the ages, from Polycarp, to Bernard of Clairvaux, to Dietrich Bonhoeffer. It also gives a sense of what God was doing through his gospel in every century. The selection of quotations from works from each century made it felt as if I got an even better sense of the history. As a confessional Lutheran, I disagree with some of the views of Dr. Ferguson, a Reformed Presbyterian, especially about the Lord’s Supper. However, he is truly a great Christian man for whom I have an immense admiration and whom I hope to meet one day, either in this life or in heaven. His Scottish voice also makes the narration a joy. His little book has given me encouragement that our Savior will build his church and will be with us always to the end of the age (Matt. 16, Matt. 28). Even so, come Lord Jesus (Rev. 22).

In the Year…

I enjoyed it but there are far better books that lay out the historical background of the church and the key people. It was okay and his very thick accent was a bit to overcome although very interesting.
